Review: LiveToronto Walking Tour and Photo Shoot

Park Hyatt Toronto Location and Check-In
Park Hyatt Toronto is located in Yorkville at 4 Avenue Road, which fortunately for us was less than a 10 minute walk from Four Seasons Toronto. The Park Hyatt Toronto is right across from the Royal Ontario Museum, or ROM, which we visited, and accordingly also close to the Museum subway station which is on Line 1 (Yonge-University).
The lobby and check-in is to the left of the main entrance. There was fortunately no wait when we checked in, early afternoon, though as we were being helped another rather rude guest tried to get the associate to help immediately with his request. Fortunately the associate politely and patiently asked him to wait.
Since I'd noticed quite a bit of construction around the hotel, I asked if we could be away from construction noise and on a high floor, and the associate obliged.
Park Hyatt Toronto Park Room
I knew ahead of time that the Park Hyatt Toronto is an older hotel (hence the excellent rates) so I warned my son not to expect too much and tried to recalibrate my own expectations, coming off a fantastic stay at the Four Seasons Toronto. Nevertheless, it was still hard to walk into the dark and gloomy room that was our Park Room. I'm sure we would have loved it if, say, we were used to staying at Motel 6 properties, but it was pretty depressing after the Four Seasons.
The bed's mattress was also too firm for my preference–a bit better than the Trump Toronto, but not anywhere near as comfortable as the new Four Seasons bed with the Signature Plush mattress topper.
Thankfully we didn't hear any construction noise, so I was appreciative of the associate for giving us a peaceful room, even though the view was almost as poor as the Trump, directly facing another building:
There was a small work desk and TV, though we weren't in the room much and didn't use them.
The bathroom was small, with just one sink, and of course no embedded TV in the mirror.
What really aged the bathroom was the old style bathtub-shower combo, which in my view = not a luxury hotel in terms of hardware.
I will say that I enjoyed the Le Labo Bergamote 22 bath products–this type of fresh citrus scent is more suitable, in my view, than the rose scented Le Labo products at the Fairmont Mayakoba.
The illy espresso machine was also a welcome addition to the room, although it couldn't lift it out of badly needing renovation and modernization. Someone needs to bite the bullet on investment at this property.

The Verdict
Since we were only staying one night and only spent time in the room to sleep, our stay was ok. But if you think that the Park Hyatt stands for modern, sleek rooms, you'll be sorely disappointed at the Park Hyatt Toronto. There's good reason why the rates are lower than the Four Seasons Toronto, which I would recommend staying at instead, and is only a few minutes' walk away.
