A 50K Citi AAdvantage Platinum Select offer is available without the 24 month restriction per Reddit. Citi AAdvantage bonuses have become harder to earn since Citi implemented its 24 month language on most Citi AAdvantage personal credit cards applications, which bars you from receiving bonus AAdvantage miles if you have opened or closed a Citi AAdvantage card (except for a CitiBusiness AAdvantage card) within the past 24 months (see New Citi Signup Bonus Rules: One Bonus per 24 Months per Points Type (AA, ThankYou Points)
The above link does NOT have the 24 month language, which should make it possible to receive the 50,000 AAdvantage miles if approved for the card, regardless of your Citi AAdvantage cards opened or closed within the past 24 months, although of course as always Citi is the final arbiter of whether you'll earn the bonus points or not. Here are the offer details:
- Earn 50,000 AAdvantage bonus miles after spending $3000 on the card within the first 3 months of account opening
- Earn 2X AAdvantage miles per dollar spent on eligible American Airlines purchases
- Earn 1 AAdvantage mile per dollar on all other purchases
- No foreign transaction fees
- Your first eligible checked bag is free for you and up to 4 companions traveling with you on the same reservation, on domestic American Airlines flights
- Group 1 boarding for you and up to 4 companions traveling with you on domestic American Airlines flights
- Receive 10% of your redeemed AAdvantage miles back up to 10,000 AAdvantage miles, per calendar year
- $95 annual fee is waived the first year
FAQ
Is 50K the Highest Citi AAdvantage Platinum Select Bonus Offer?
50,000 Bonus AAdvantage miles is currently the highest public Citi AAdvantage Platinum Select offer, although there have been reports of 60,000 bonus miles targeted offers. If you receive a 60K or higher targeted offer that you're eligible for, apply for it instead.
How Can I Be Sure I'll Get the 50K Bonus?
To be sure, you'll need to wait to receive an approval letter that mentions the bonus. Citi does not always honor customer service representatives' assurances that you'll receive the bonus, so it all comes down to the approval letter. So if you aren't willing to take the risk of a hard pull for a card that may not confer the bonus (if for example you have opened or closed a Citi AAdvantage card within the past 24 months) sit this one out.
Is It Worth Earning AAdvantage Miles After the 2016 AAdvantage Award Chart Devaluation?
It depends on what you use AAdvantage miles for, but it's worth it for us, since we generally redeem AAdvantage miles for first class or business class international flights, such as JAL First Class, JAL Business Class, Cathay Pacific First Class, Etihad First Apartment on the A380, Qantas First Class, etc.
Even after the AAdvantage devaluation, JAL Business Class to Japan is 60,000 AAdvantage miles each way, the same as using Alaska Mileage Plan miles, although JAL First Class to Japan is a bit more: 80K AAdvantage miles vs. 70K Alaska miles. Cathay Pacific Business Class to Hong Kong and Southeast Asia is 70K AA miles, vs. 60K Alaska miles (and Alaska miles do allow a stopover even on one way awards) so Alaska miles are more advantageous, but many people don't earn Alaska miles, and it's been quite awhile since we've had a 50K Alaska Visa bonus offer. AAdvantage miles are also a key way to fly Etihad First Apartment and Etihad First Class, although those awards to the Middle East and India have increased to 115K AA miles each way, from their previous 90K AA miles level.
