US Airways credit card holders received 10% to 50% Dividend Miles rebates for award redemptions yesterday, under the heading “Get More for Your Miles.” My offer is for 25% (see above) but I've heard of other rebate offers ranging from 10% to 50% Dividend Miles back.
So if you have a US Airways credit card, be sure to check your email. Don't forget that in the new Gmail, these emails usually are under the “Promotions” tab, so you may not see it in your main inbox.
Here are the details:
- Redeem at least 20,000 miles
- Redeem by November 30, 2013
- Award travel must be before March 31, 2014
- Valid on partner airlines
- Maximum rebate per Dividend Miles account is 30,000 miles
- No registation required, but your account must have been targeted (so you can't switch your 10% rebate offer for a 50% rebate offer, for example)
FAQ
How Do I Maximize the US Airways Dividend Miles Rebate Offer?
If you have a spouse or travel partner and both of you received the offer, leverage the best rebate offer (perhaps one of you received the 25% rebate and the other received the 50% rebate, so redeem from the account of the one targeted with the 50% rebate). Then, if you need more Dividend miles in that account, take advantage of the current
US Airways 100% Bonus on Shared Miles promo to transfer miles into that account at a cost of 1.1 cent per mile.
While you could also stick to US Airways metal to get a further 5000 discount on the award, I'm not convinced that's worth it–even if you
can't redeem US Airways miles for Lufthansa first class, you may be able to book SWISS business class, Lufthansa's new business class, Singapore business class, Asiana first class, etc. all of which I would recommend over US Airways Envoy.
You could also take advantage of an off peak award, see below.
Where Should I Fly Using the Mileage Rebate?
My two picks using partners would be:
- 90K miles roundtrip U.S. to North Asia in Business Class
- 110K miles roundtrip U.S. to Australia in Business Class
If you don't mind traveling off season and on US Airways metal, a discounted off peak award could be a good bet, for example:
- Offpeak from North America or Hawaii to Europe Coach Award for 35K miles roundtrip January 15-February 28
- Offpeak from North America or Hawaii to South America for 35K miles (coach) or 60K miles (Envoy) Feb. 3-13 and March 17-April 3 (but keep in mind for the mileage rebate travel must be completed by March 31, 2014)
Should I Redeem US Airways Dividend Miles, or Hope That They'll Turn into AAdvantage Miles?
Tough question, and depends on your travel preferences. No one knows for sure that the merger will be approved, but the case is going forward (the DOJ did not prevail in its request for a stay, due to the government shutdown), so there still is a decent chance your Dividend Miles will ultimately become AAdvantage miles. Personally I prefer AAdvantage miles for a number of reasons (first class awards on great partners, one way awards, can change award even after travel has begun, etc.) but other folks love their US Airways Dividend miles due to the award chart sweet spots.
