Sui-Ren Review, Shore Club, Turks and Caicos

Sui-Ren Review, Shore Club, Turks and Caicos

.

Sui-Ren is the Shore Club's Japanese-Peruvian fine dining restaurant, which I tried during a site inspection stay.

.

Sui-Ren Restaurant Location and Hours

Sui-Ren Restaurant is located at The Shore Club, on Long Bay Beach, about a 17-minute drive from Providenciales Airport (PLS), and about an 8-minute drive from Grace Bay. It's open nightly for dinner from 5:30-10pm.

The restaurant is wonderfully atmospheric, with its fountain, abundant greenery, and lanterns.

Sui-Ren Restaurant Menu and Food

The menu includes specialty sushi rolls, Peruvian ceviches, and Asian-inflected small dishes and mains.

A tuna amuse bouche was a nice way to start; very few of the Turks and Caicos restaurants I dined at offered an amuse bouche.

We shared a variety of appetizers. The tuna tataki salad was especially, good, although I wished that it hadn't been quite so smothered with spicy mayo.

The sushi rolls were my next most favorite appetizer, although here too I wished for less mayo.

The chicken karaage was tasty enough, but this isn't a dish I'd normally order as I tend to avoid most deep fried food. The gyozas were also fine, but nothing special, particularly for the price.

I opted for two dishes instead of a main. I liked the Hamachi “Thai” best, with its refreshing combination of hamachi, coconut milk, Asian pear, lemongrass, and basil.

The Crispy Brussels Sprouts weren't as good as I was hoping for; the tempura exterior wasn't as light or crispy enough as I expected.

Dessert was unfortunately a kind of chocolate pudding, but not one of the main desserts from the dessert menu. While plated beautifully, I didn't find it worth finishing.

The Verdict

Sui-Ren had the most memorable decor and ambience of the many dinners I had in Turks and Caicos, but the cuisine was only middling. I most enjoyed the tuna tataki salad and hamachi ceviche, but preferred Infiniti at Grace Bay Club for sushi, and Land & Sea at Wymara Villas for brussels sprouts.
