Rosewood Will Enter New Zealand with its management of three Robertson lodges as of 12/1/23: Rosewood Kauri Cliffs, Rosewood Cape Kidnappers and Rosewood Matakauri. The Robertson lodges have, together with a few other New Zealand lodges such as Otahuna Lodge near Christchurch, Minaret Station Alpine Lodge in Wanaka and Wharekauhau Country Estate in Featherston, been the best luxury lodging for discerning travelers to New Zealand. Cape Kidnappers and Kauri Cliffs are also known for their stellar golf courses, recently ranked #21 and #26 respectively by Golf Digest's 100 Greatest Golf Courses in the World.
Kauri Cliffs near Matauri Bay, Northland, Matakauri Lodge near Queenstown, and The Farm at Cape Kidnappers by Hawke's Bay were founded by the late Tiger Management hedge fund manager and billionaire Julian Robertson, who died in August 2022. He had a love for New Zealand after first visiting in the late 1970s, and acquired substantial assets there, including a winery that was sold in 2022. As is typical with luxury hotel management, the Robertson family continues to own its luxury lodges and golf courses, paying a management fee to Rosewood Hotels & Resorts. The arrangement should also help bring additional Rosewood fans and guests to New Zealand.
