Miles and More is offering 50% off select awards in business class and economy class for travel January 8 to February 16 (with a few exceptions, valid for travel through March 31, 2014), booked by January 31, 2014, per TravelSort reader Michael. Well, more accurately, business class awards are 47.6% off, at 55K Miles & More miles roundtrip instead of 105K Miles & More miles, but economy class are indeed 50% off, at 30K Miles & More miles roundtrip, instead of 60K Miles & More miles. As usual, don't forget the rather high fuel surcharges charged by Miles & More, as much as ~$1000 roundtrip on business class awards from the U.S. to Europe.
I prefer the Iberia 50% Off Awards offer that ends today, January 7, for a few reasons:
- 40,000 Iberia miles roundtrip for business class from the East Coast
- Low fuel surcharges
- Easier to find award availability on Iberia's new flat bed business class product
- Travel dates included dates until April 8, 2014
I would also consider burning United miles, before the United Award Chart Devaluation on February 1, since these awards don't have the hefty fuel surcharges of Miles and More awards, and if you can travel last minute, you could even fly Lufthansa New First Class. Plus, if you're willing to pay the change fee and close-in booking fee and are flexible, you could even fly Lufthansa First Class later in 2014 with Pre-Devaluation United miles.
That said, Lufthansa offers a number of destinations in Europe, Russia and Turkey, so if you've had it with the Arctic weather in the East Coast and want to get away sometime in January or early February, plus have some Miles & More miles from the recent 50,000 Lufthansa Miles & More Credit Card offer, this could be a good bet.
