Lincoln Center's annual Midsummer Night Swing 2017 kicked off last night with the Count Basie Orchestra, and a spirited Lindy Hop lesson and performance. For any fans of jazz, blues, big band swing, ballroom, salsa, and even hustle and Argentine Tango, the festival is a must.
Even if you don't consider yourself a dancer, go and listen to some great music al fresco; there's no charge to listen in the immediate area, the only charge is for entrance to the dance floor, and you can either buy individual tickets or series tickets.

Dates: June 27 – July 15, 2017
Location: Damrosch Park at Lincoln Center, 62nd Street and 9th Avenue.
Group Dance Lesson is 6:30-7:15pm
Live Music Sets at 7:30pm-8:30pm and 9pm-10pm (except for the Saturday July 15 Kids Dance, 3-4:30pm)
Single Tickets: $17 per person in advance, or $20 per person day-of
Season Pass: $170 is valid for 16 entries to the dance floor
6 Dance Pass: $84
4 Dance Pass: $60
Note that no bags or purses are allowed on the dance floor. Best to leave bags at home, but if you do bring a bag, you must use the bag check which costs $3 per bag (passholders receive one free bag check per entry).

Saturday, July 15: Harlem Renaissance Orchestra Plus the Ambassador Prize Lindy Hop Dance Contest (Lindy Hop)
After the 6:30pm-7:15pm Lindy Hop lesson, instructor Akemi Kinukawa, her partner, and several other dancers performed a Lindy Hop exhibition dance:
At 7:30pm, The Count Basie Orchestra started playing. There was a festive mood as veteran and new dancers alike danced Lindy Hop and Jitterbug.
