Greece Exempts Boosted Americans from COVID-19 Testing

.

Greece Now Exempts Certain Fully Vaccinated and Boosted Visitors from COVID-19 Pre-Travel Testing, as of February 14, 2022. Travelers from the US, Canada, and Australia who are fully vaccinated and boosted no longer have to take a COVID-19 test prior to entering Greece. This follows a similar lifting of the testing requirements on 2/7/22 for travelers with an EU vaccination certificate. All other international travel restrictions remain largely unchanged, as do domestic controls in force to curb the spread of the virus.

To enter Greece, EU, U.S., Canadian and Australian visitors must provide one of the following documents:

  • Vaccination certificate from the primary course of vaccination (valid for 9 months after the final shot) or vaccination certificate that includes a booster dose (unlimited validity). U.S. citizens must bring their original CDC vaccination card
  • Certificate of illness valid for 180 days.
  • Certificate of a PCR test performed last 72 hours of departure or antigen test performed 24 hours before arrival.

Note that all other international arrivals to Greece not from the EU (or one of the 33 countries that have joined the EU Digital Covid Certificate system) and not from the U.S., Canada, or Australia must have a negative result from a COVID-19 PCR test taken within the 72 hours prior to arrival or from a rapid antigen test taken within the 48 hours prior to arrival, in order to enter Greece.

Per the Consular Department of the Greek Embassy in Washington, DC, vaccinated/boosted U.S. citizens who meet the requirements above may transit in an EU/EU Digital Covid Certificate system country and still be exempt from pre-travel testing as long as they remain airside. Note that they could still be subject to mandatory random testing on arrival.

Additionally, ALL arrivals, including those exempt from pre-travel testing, must complete a Passenger Locator Form (PLF) before arrival. All arrivals are also subject to random rapid COVID-19 testing on arrival; those who test positive must self-isolate for five days.

Do you know how this would apply to Americans traveling to Greece transiting another country? We are planning a trip to Greece this summer but the two airlines we are looking at have 9-12 hr layovers in either LHR (BA) or IST (TK). We would not be exiting security in either case as they are simply transit points. Thx!
