The Four Seasons Maui at Wailea is Offering the Chance to Give Back to Hawaii and Give Yourself a Complimentary Future Night in an Ocean View Room–quite an attractive offer! The resort's new Mālama Hawaiʻi volunteer experience is a collaboration with the Lahaina Restoration Foundation.
“Mālama means ‘to care for,’ explains Four Seasons Maui Cultural Ambassador “Aunty Wendy” Tuivaioge, “and this program is perfect for guests who are not only interested in leaving Maui a better place than when they arrived but also finding a deep meaningful connection to this very special place we call home.”
The non-profit Lahaina Restoration Foundation's mission is to restore, preserve and protect the physical, historical and cultural legacies of Maui, honoring the era of the Hawaiian Monarchy. The volunteer experience lasts 3 hours, starting at a time between 9:30am-12noon, and includes:
- Brief training session
- Photograph/transcribe/measure historic artifacts and documents from different eras of Lahaina's past, including the Kingdom of Hawaii and missionary, whaling, and sugar plantation eras
- Brief tour of a historic site, or a presentation by one of the museum educators
All active participants must be age 12 or older, although younger children may attend in the company of their family.
As a thank you, the Four Seasons Maui is providing a $250 resort credit (one per room or suite) for use during the participants' current stay, as well as a gift certificate for a one night stay in an Ocean View Room for a future stay. Depending on when the night is redeemed, its value could be close to $2000, for example on this night in early December 2021 when an Ocean View Room is $1950 + tax:

Four Seasons Maui originally launched its Mālama Hawaiʻi initiative during its reopening in November 2020, in collaboration with Pacific Whale Foundation. Guests who volunteer for shoreline debris monitoring and clean-up work also enjoy the same thank you gift of resort credit as well as a future one-night stay in an Ocean View Room.
Over the initiative’s first six months, volunteers have collected thousands of debris items. Pacific Whale Foundation Conservation Advocate Shelby Serra notes that “Guests are both removing the immediate threat of marine debris from our shorelines, while contributing valuable data that helps Pacific Whale Foundation mitigate the threat to whales, dolphins and all marine life.”
