Review: The Fullerton Bay Hotel, Singapore

The Fullerton Bay Hotel, Singapore is currently my clients' favorite Singapore luxury hotel, so I was very much looking forward to my site inspection visit, particularly after a fairly sleepless night in Singapore Business Class from Moscow to Singapore.

The Fullerton Bay Singapore Location, Lobby and Check-In

The Fullerton Bay Hotel in Singapore enjoys a fantastic location, right on Marina Bay, at 80 Collyer Quay. I hadn't realized that there was a half marathon being run that morning, and neither had my taxi driver, who apologized for needing to take a detour and having to drop me off on the other side of the street.

But even with the slight disruption, our drive early Sunday morning from the airport was speedy, and took just over 20 minutes from getting in the taxi until I reached the lobby, having walked across the bridge from Clifford Centre to where the Fullerton Bay Hotel is located.

There were no other guests at reception, so check-in was swift and we were soon escorted to a lovely upgraded Premier Bay View Room.

The entry level room category is a Deluxe Room, which is 484-538 square feet, with a city view, with a view of the Customs House. The confirmed upgrade from this room type, assuming it's available at time of booking, is a Premier Room, which is of a similar size and also has a city view, but has views of landmarks such as Clifford Pier and Merlion Park.

I always recommend reserving at least a Premier Room, since the confirmed upgrade from it (again, assuming it's available at time of booking) is a Bay View Room. Not only is this room larger, at 495-624 square feet, it offers a stunning bay view. These rooms are on levels 2-6.

The room we were in, a Premier Bay View Room, is 624 square feet and is on floor 1, with its own outdoor sundeck with loungers. Here's the early morning view over Marina Bay, including the Marina Bay Sands, with the sunrise:

The room itself is gorgeous, and definitely my favorite of the luxury hotel rooms I've stayed at in Singapore, where I've had four other luxury hotel stays. It certainly helps that the hotel was newly built in 2010, and has been meticulously maintained, so it looks contemporary and fresh.

The fruit welcome amenity also came with some French macarons and chocolates, which were as delicious as they looked. There was even a cute bear welcome amenity for my son.

The bed was very comfortable, and the temperature was refreshingly cool, a respite from the already hot, humid weather outside. I was able to take a much needed nap, and my son, who unfortunately had come down with some kind of virus, slept most of the day, until we had to depart.

There was even a chocolate in a box, for turndown, not that we needed any more sweets, given the lovely welcome amenity assortment:

Lights and blackout shades are conveniently operated from a control panel on the nightstand beside the bed:

While the bathroom only had one sink, everything else was top notch. The lofty rain shower would have easily accommodated guests who are 7 feet tall or more, and there was a separate soaking tub.

Bath products are Bottega Veneta:

I also appreciated the selection of TWG teas that were provided, in addition to a Nespresso machine and capsules. I enjoy TWG tea even more than Mighty Leaf when it comes to Earl Grey and black teas.

The Fullerton Bay Hotel Breakfast Buffet at Brasserie

I always look forward to luxury hotel breakfast buffets in Singapore, thanks to the amazing East-West variety, including Singaporean favorites. I arrived just before the ostensible end of breakfast, but fortunately staff were very accommodating and seated me quickly, even though the dining room was quite crowded and they had to quickly bus a table.

Options included a variety of fresh fruits and juices:

There were favorites such as smoked salmon, cheeses and cold cuts:

Hot items included fixings for Nasi Lemak (coconut rice with fried chicken, prawns and condiments), mushroom puffs and hash brown patties, noodles, sticky rice, dim sum, and more.

You could also request eggs cooked to order, including an egg special and various fresh squeezed juices:

It was hard to choose, but I chose a little of each of my favorites, from dim sum to nasi lemak to smoked salmon:

And of course yogurt was a must; there was Emmi yogurt from Switzerland, and fresh berries, which I appreciated:

The Verdict

I understand why The Fullerton Bay Hotel in Singapore is so popular, as even its regular rooms are the most up to date in terms of Singapore luxury hotels, and this is combined with excellent service, from reception to housekeeping to the restaurants, and an excellent high quality breakfast buffet. The bay views are gorgeous from the hotel's prime vantage point, and if you have an outdoor terrace you truly feel like you're on a vacation, even if it's just a short break from work on a business trip. I especially appreciated how quiet our room was, even during the day, since we were napping.

I highly recommend splurging for a Bay View or Premier Bay View Room, and booking early since these Virtuoso upgrades can be secured at time of booking, assuming the next category is available when booking.
