Booking the Mandarin Oriental with Virtuoso or Mandarin Oriental FAN Club Amenities

It's possible to book the Mandarin Oriental with either Virtuoso or Mandarin Oriental FAN Club amenities, which are similar:

  • Upgrade on arrival, subject to availability
  • Continental breakfast for two daily (either in restaurant or via room service)
  • $100 Spa Services credit for use during stay
  • Early check-in and late check-out subject to availability

Lobby and Check-In

The Mandarin Oriental's lobby and reception is on the 23rd floor, which has its pros and cons: a striking view of the lights on the Las Vegas Strip, but also the effect of having to take a second elevator to your room, which is on a lower floor than the lobby.

I was welcomed and checked in smoothly, and the associate provided a cool towel and iced tea drink, adorned with a flower.

Room

Although initially I was offered an 11th floor room, I requested a room on a higher floor in order to better enjoy the lights on The Strip, and was graciously accommodated in a 19th floor room, which was upgraded to a Strip View thanks to booking with Virtuoso.

I loved the beautiful Virtuoso chocolate amenity provided in the room, almost too pretty to eat:

There was even a Virtuoso Travel Week Amenity with 5 Hour Energy, Coconut Water, Painkillers, Mints and more:

There was a spacious foyer and closet to the right as I entered:

Here's the view during the day:

And at night:

The 500 square feet room was spacious, in modern Asian decor that I took to immediately.

The bathroom included dual vanities and a large stand alone soaking tub, with bath salts thoughtfully provided:

There was also a separate toilet chamber and a glass enclosed rain shower. Bath amenities were by Shanghai Tang, which of course immediately made me think of Cathay Pacific First Class pajamas, even though the new Cathay Pacific First Class will change its pajamas to a different maker.

The bed was very comfortable, and that night I drifted off to sleep almost immediately. I was woken, however, by sirens a couple times during the night. If you're a sounder sleeper than I am, however, it may not bother you.

Breakfast: I was happy that the included continental breakfast could be taken via room service, since I was hard pressed for time in the morning. It was brought up right on time, and included orange juice, vanilla yogurt (house-made, I believe), fresh fruit, a generous basket of pastries, jam, and hot chocolate (which can be ordered in lieu of tea or coffee):

The Verdict: I can see why the Mandarin Oriental has become the favorite Las Vegas luxury hotel for many visitors–it's not quite as central as the Bellagio but is easily accessible via the complimentary Aria tramway, rooms are modern, well appointed and still very new, and service is excellent. The only thing I didn't care for was that sirens were audible at night, even on the 19th floor, due to the central Strip location. If you want more quiet while sleeping and even better Strip views, then I'd recommend The Four Seasons Las Vegas.
