Swiss Business Class is available from the U.S. to Europe for about $1500 roundtrip this summer from select cities that are not United hubs. Usually SWISS Business Class for these routes runs at least twice that. I don't expect these fares to last long, so book as soon as possible for any that you want.
For example, here's a $1487 Swiss Business Class roundtrip from NYC Newark (EWR) to Venice (VCE) via Zurich (ZRH) in July for $1487. Personally, Venice is too touristy for my taste and offers one of the worst value propositions as far as hotels go, but you could use this as a springboard to explore other parts of Italy, from Florence to Tuscany.
And for the same July dates, I found Swiss Business Class from Boston (BOS) to Paris (CDG via Zurich for $1561 roundtrip. If you go to Paris, don't miss staying in the Four Seasons Paris George V (Book with Four Seasons Preferred Partner benefits for the best chance of an upgrade and full breakfast for two daily, as well as a spa credit and complimentary Internet) or at least a splurge meal at Le Cinq.
Or if you're willing to connect twice, fly from Orlando (MCO) via Chicago (ORD) and Zurich (ZRH) to Paris (CDG), with just Orlando to Chicago on United, and the other flights in Swiss Business Class, for $1575 roundtrip:
Note that for the most part you won't be able to fly from some of the most popular airports, such as NYC JFK, Chicago ORD, etc. since these fares are part of a fare war that focuses on airports that *aren't* United hubs.
Why SWISS Business Class?
SWISS Business Class is a strong business class offering, with staggered seating such that each seat has aisle access, flat bed seats that convert into a fully flat bed that is 6 feet, 6 inches in length, solid if not spectacular food and drinks, and efficient if not always warm Swiss service. And keep in mind that after all, coming from the U.S., your main option to Europe with Asian service is Singapore Airlines on the JFK to Frankfurt or Houston to Moscow routes. And in general I do prefer Swiss Business Class to the long haul flights to Europe on United or other U.S. carriers.
