Four Seasons Moscow Review

Four Seasons Moscow Location and Check-In

Four Seasons Hotel Moscow is located at 2 Okhotny Ryad, in the historic former Hotel Moskva, with its prime location right on Manezhnaya Square by Red Square. Metro Station Okhotny Ryad is literally just to your right as you exit the hotel. You really couldn't ask for a more central base in Moscow.

We checked in a bit early, before our room was ready, so we were able to leave our small bags with reception, who with a smile presented my son with an adorable puppy stuffed animal. The puppy came along with us when we left to explore Red Square:

Four Seasons Moscow Premier Room

Four Seasons Moscow's Premier Rooms are the largest entry level hotel rooms in Moscow, at 430-635 square feet in size. I had a hard time believing this was an entry level room, given how spacious the living area was:

Plus, ours had a balcony with a lovely view of Manezhnaya Square. Note that not all Premier Rooms have balconies, and for safety reasons, you do need to sign a waiver to have the hotel open the balcony doors all the way, but this is easy to do at reception.

There were some yummy housemade walnut cookies waiting for us, which we enjoyed as a dessert that evening. The creamy praline filling was better than Nutella.

Thanks to being a new Four Seasons hotel (Four Seasons Moscow just opened last year, in 2014) all beds are the new Four Seasons bed. Prior to your stay, you can advise whether you prefer a firmer or plusher mattress.

The marble bathroom featured double sinks and a separate toilet chamber, which in my view every true luxury hotel should offer. The bathroom mirror also has an embedded TV, handy if needing to catch the news while getting ready, or if you feel like watching a program while soaking in the bath. Since it was good Russian practice, I allowed my son to watch some Russian cartoons during his bath.

There was a nice deep soaking tub, as well as separate glass enclosed rain shower:

Bath products are custom made for Four Seasons Moscow by Roberto Cavalli, and there were even special kids' bath products for my son:

The bath foam made a great pampering bubble bath for my son that evening:

And my son had his own child-size bathrobe which he loved, along with his new friend:

Here's my video of our Premier Room:

Four Seasons Moscow Amnis Spa and Swimming Pool

The Amnis Spa in othe fifth floor is spectacular. My photo of the reception area doesn't do it justice, but there are waterfalls on either side and subtle pathway lights that change color.

The waiting area features infused water, fresh fruit, nuts and cookies:

In the women's changing room I couldn't resist relaxing a bit on one of the heated relaxation chairs:

And while I didn't have time to use them, there's also a Finnish sauna, steam room, and experience shower:

A true highlight of the hotel is its large 1593 sq. ft swimming pool, with a glass atrium overhead letting in great natural light. There's even classical underwater music to swim by.

After swimming awhile in the pool, we both enjoyed the jacuzzi hot tub:

Four Seasons Moscow Breakfast at Bystro

Breakfast is served at Bystro Restaurant from 6:30-10:30am on weekdays and 7-11am on weekends. The buffet breakfast offers an extensive selection of fresh fruit; cereals; yogurt; pastries; hot items such as eggs, bacon, spring rolls, dim sum, etc.

One of my favorites was the caviar station:

I was also happy to see syrniki, Russian farmer's cheese pancakes that are heavenly with jam or honey:

Freshly squeezed juice was also included, so I chose a mixture of orange and grapefruit juice:

The Verdict

Some travelers don't think there are great luxury hotels in Russia. They obviously haven't stayed at Four Seasons Moscow, where both the quality of the room and the service was superior to many luxury hotels I've stayed at in Western Europe and the U.S. From our welcome to the finesse with which the Concierge handled our missing luggage from Transaero (which was in the room when we returned from dinner) to the special amenities for my son and excellent service in the spa and Bystro restaurant, we enjoyed an exceptional stay. Highly recommended for either a business or leisure stay in Moscow.
