The Mandarin Oriental Esencia in Puerto Rico will open in 2028 as the third Mandarin Oriental resort in the Caribbean, after Mandarin Oriental Canouan and the Mandarin Oriental Grand Cayman (2026). The new build resort and its associated private residences will be located on the island's southwestern coast at Boquerón Bay in Cabo Rojo.
Mandarin Oriental Esencia Location and Getting There
The resort's Boquerón Bay location is about a 2 hour 15 min. drive from San Juan airport (SJU), which is served by nonstop flights from many mainland U.S. cities, including ATL, BOS, DCA, DEN, EWR, IAD, IAH, JFK, MCO, MIA, MSP, ORD, PHL, and others.

Mandarin Oriental Esencia Resort and Amenities
The resort, designed by Studio MK27 (Patina Maldives, Fari Islands) will feature 106 rooms and suites with a balcony, terrace or private garden. Select suites will feature plunge pools, whilst all villas will include private pools. 83 residential villas will be sprinkled across Esencia’s spectacular beach, hillside and cliffs.
Guests will enjoy the choice of five different restaurants featuring international cuisines with locally inspired culinary delights, as well as a beach club, poolside restaurant and bar, and a sophisticated lounge bar.
The Spa at Mandarin Oriental will provide a full array of signature wellness, beauty and massage treatments. The dedicated wellness space includes a state of the art fitness center with an outdoor lap-pool and a beauty salon.
Golfers can take advantage of the Rees Jones-designed 18-hole golf course, while families with kids will have access to a dedicated children’s club. There will also be an outdoor adventure center that makes the most of the natural beauty of Boquerón Bay.
