Best Uses of Ultimate Rewards Points

Currently, our best value Ultimate Rewards redemptions tend to be taking advantage of a Ultimate Rewards to Avios transfer bonus, then transferring to British Airways or Iberia Avios to reserve oneworld redemptions, such as Aer Lingus Business Class, Iberia Business Class, Qatar First Class, Qatar Qsuites Business Class, and JAL Sky Suite Business Class. While British Airways and Iberia have distance-based award charts that make them more expensive than American AAdvantage, the award calendar opens up earlier, a huge advantage when booking award tickets about a year in advance. Unfortunately, with recent United Airlines award devaluations, it will be much harder to get good value transferring Ultimate Rewards points to United. We've noticed scarcer business class and first class award availability post-pandemic, given high travel demand and many airlines' stingier release of premium cabin award seats, so we highly recommend planning well in advance to make the most of your Ultimate Rewards points.
