JFK Lufthansa Business Class Lounge Review

JFK Lufthansa Business Class Lounge Review

This JFK Lufthansa Business Class Lounge Review is the start of a new trip report including Business Class to Europe, Europe to Asia-Pacific, and luxury hotels, resorts and dining in Europe and Asia-Pacific. Last year we flew Lufthansa First Class via Frankfurt, so we reviewed the Lufthansa First Class Lounge at JFK, which is the upstairs level and overlooks the Business Class Lounge. See all of our airport lounge reviews.

The Lufthansa Business Class Lounge at JFK Airport Terminal 1 is situated after you clear security, on the left. Across from reception is a model Lufthansa A380 plane, so we took another photo, even though we weren't flying Lufthansa this trip:

Lufthansa Business Class Lounge JFK Amenities
At reception, I asked if there was a password for the WiFi, and was told that the WiFi wasn't working. While I was able to tether my phone to get WiFi on my laptop, the most basic thing a lounge should provide, apart from seating, is WiFi, so this was quite a fail.
No WiFi in Lufthansa Business Class Lounge, JFK
Probably the best aspect of the lounge are the floor to ceiling windows that let in plenty of natural light, and also affords great views of the tarmac, if you're an aviation buff.

There were quite a few padded armchairs in the lounge, but this part of the lounge was completely packed during our visit, as were the 4 day bed chairs in a small alcove.

There was also a TV lounge closer to the entrance that had a bit more room:

Most of the seating during our stay, however, was at the less comfortable dining tables on bar stools, close to reception.

There's also a single shower room, which I'd visited last year and is shared by the Lufthansa First Class Lounge:

The women's bathroom is very plain–no special hand soap, moisturizer or other amenities here:

Lufthansa Business Class Lounge JFK Airport Food and Drinks

The food offerings looked pretty picked over at the time of our visit, at about 4pm in the afternoon. There were the remains of a pasta salad, with some salad fixings and cheese slices:

Neither of the two hot dishes looked appetizing; my son's school cafeteria food looks better than what was on offer here:

There were two soups, and the better one seemed to be a beef vegetable soup:

There were pre-made fruit cups and a couple of cakes available for dessert:

There are also some dry snacks, such as potato chips, raisins and nuts:

Your best bets at the lounge are the drinks. There were an array of spirits, red wine, white wine and beer:

There's also an espresso machine:

And tea is by Harney & Sons:

The Verdict

The Lufthansa Business Class Lounge at JFK at the time of my visit was underwhelming for an international business class lounge. The seating areas in the more comfortable parts of the lounge were crowded, the food mediocre, and the WiFi wasn't working. I was glad we didn't make any special effort to arrive early to JFK, and wouldn't bother with the offerings in the lounge if you have the option to dine before arriving or on board.

If you've visited the Lufthansa Business Class Lounge or Senator Lounge at JFK recently, what was your experience?

Totally agree. This lounge does not feel premium. It is noisy, and the drink and snack selection is sub-par. About what I expect from a non-premium domestic airline but not from a premium international carrier.

Disappointed
