Four Seasons Punta Mita Location and Check-In

Four Seasons Punta Mita is located about a 50 minute drive from Puerto Vallarta Airport (PVR), which offers nonstop flights from ATL, DEN, DFW, EWR, IAH, JFK, LAS, LAX, PHX, SEA, and other cities. The resort is located on 26 acres in the gated Punta Mita community, which also encompasses a number of private homes, Jack Nicklaus golf course, tennis courts, and St. Regis resort.

Once we arrived, we were comfortably seated on one of the sofas in the open air lobby, where we were given delicious mango welcome drinks and cool towels to refresh.

We also took a look at the resort map below, to orient ourselves, before a buggy came to take us to our casita (which turned out to be a short 3-minute walk from the lobby; we didn't bother with buggies or transport for the rest of our stay, apart from going to the tennis courts, as it's all very walkable).

Ocean Casita

We were upgraded from a Garden Casita to an Ocean Casita. All Casitas are 645 square feet (60 square meters), with a choice of garden, ocean, or oceanfront views. A table included an array of tasty welcome amenities: ingredients to make our own margaritas, chips with freshly made guacamole and salsa, and fresh fruit along with a baseball hat for our son (which he loves and continues to wear daily).

My husband mixed up a margarita and we enjoyed it on the balcony, which features a comfortably day bed as well as a table and two chairs for al fresco dining.

Inside, the casita is handsomely appointed in wood and stone, thanks to a multi-year, multi-million dollar renovation that concluded in 2020.

King bedded casitas can accommodate up to four guests, thanks to a queen size sofa bed. As always, we slept incredibly well on the Four Seasons bed, for which we always request a Signature Plush mattress pad (the default is the medium firmness Signature pad, while guests who prefer a firmer mattress may request the Signature Firm pad).

The bathroom includes double sinks, a separate toilet chamber, soaking tub, and separate glass enclosed rain shower, with L'Occitane Mistral bath products.

Lazy River, Nuna Family Pool, Tamai Adult Pools, and Beaches

The resort has multiple swimming pools, which contribute to a relaxed vibe even when the resort is full, which is often the case during the resort's peak winter and spring season. Our first stop was the Lazy River, which is located just past the Kids for All Seasons complimentary kids' club, by the Oasis bar. Since the river is actually a loop, you conveniently end up back where you started. Kids and adult kids-at-heart alike enjoy floating along the river (there are even two person inflatables, which my husband and I enjoyed).

Our next stop was a quick peek at the Tamai Adult Pool, which is actually a collection of three pools of three different sizes, as well as a jacuzzi. Lap swimmers will be happy to find that the largest is a lap pool (with a mermaid statue and fountain water feature).

Next we moved on the Nuna infinity pool, which is the resort's main pool, with an ocean view. While family-friendly, in the afternoons and early evenings there were at least as many adults in the pool enjoying drinks.

The resort enjoys swimmable white sand beaches to the left and right of the resort. One reader wrote in to tell me that there are crocodiles in the Puerto Vallarta area, but to my knowledge there has never been a crocodile attack on the Four Seasons Punta Mita beach, and we certainly didn't see any either while my husband and son were boogie boarding or while kayaking.

The Verdict

Having stayed at Four Seasons Punta Mita, we now understand why clients often debate between it and Four Seasons Hualalai. Since I'm from Hawaii, I'll admit to a bias for Hualalai, which was more recently renovated, has a lovelier spa area with fitness equipment outside, plus the Kings Pond lava rock pool with all those tropical fish and eagle ray is very unique. But to be more objective, when both resorts are operating at full capacity, I give the service edge to Four Seasons Punta Mita, which also has the advantage of swimmable beaches with kayaking and boogie boarding, somewhat more extensive dining options, and a more robust offering for teens. Particularly for clients based in California, flying nonstop to PVR is 2 or more hours each way less time than flying to Hawaii, making Four Seasons Punta Mita a very compelling option.
