Update: Unfortunately the terms have been updated to exclude all MileagePlus credit cards except for the following. I'm not a fan of these post-offer changes in terms, but don't count on United MileagePlus honoring the bonus miles even if you, as I did, registered before these terms were added, and took a screenshot.
Eligible credit cards for this promotion are only BAM – Guatemala, Bancolombia – Colombia, Banco General- Panama, Banco Popular – Dominican Republic, HSBC – Panama, HSBC – Costa Rica, ITAU – Uruguay, PacifiCard – Ecuador, Santander- Puerto Rico, Standard Bank – Argentina. Earn 5000 bonus United miles with $1000 spend on a MileagePlus Credit Card by October 31, 2012. If you have some United airlines spend before the end of the month, this would be a good time to earn 7X on it: 2X points by using your United MileagePlus Explorer or United Club card, and 5X on up to $1000 of spend. If you have the United Club Card, you could spend $1000 on anything and get 6.5X, since the United Club Card gets you 1.5X United miles on all spend, and then you have the 5X bonus.

You must be an existing cardholder as of August 1, 2012. You must register for this offer. With this offer, you will receive 5,000 bonus award miles after you make a minimum qualifying card spend of $1,000 USD (or equivalent in local currency) between August 1 and October 31, 2012. Please allow 8-10 weeks following the close of the promotion for bonus award miles to post to your MileagePlus account. Bonus may be earned one time per primary cardholder. If you didn't have a MileagePlus credit card as of August 1, 2012, you can of course get 5000 United miles for $1000 spend with 5X points for any office supply store spend using the Ink Bold or Ink Plus, or get 5X for the first $1500 of Q4 airline, hotel, Best Buy or Kohl's spend using the Chase Freedom. You'll earn Ultimate Rewards points, which you can transfer 1:1 to United miles.
