Earn 100K AAdvantage miles with the Citi AAdvantage Platinum Select and CitiBusiness AAdvantage cards, if you haven't opened or closed either card within the past 24 months. The public bonus of both cards is only 30,000 AAdvantage miles, so be sure to see the Best Travel Credit Cards page for the 50K links. Here are the terms for both offers:
- Earn 50K AAdvantage miles after $3000 in spend within the first 3 months of account opening
- No foreign transaction fees
- 2 AAdvantage miles for every $1 spent on eligible American Airlines purchases and on purchases at telecommunications merchants, gas stations and car rental agencies
- $95 annual fee is waived the first year
- First checked bag free on domestic American Airlines flights
Keep in mind that if you get only one 50K Citi AAdvantage card, get the personal version, because it also gives you 10% of your redeemed AAdvantage miles back each year, up to a maximum of 10,000 AAdvantage miles per account per calendar year. The CitiBusiness AAdvantage card does NOT offer 10% of AAdvantage miles back after AAdvantage award redemptions.
FAQ
Am I Eligible for the 50K Bonus If I've Had the Same Citi AAdvantage Card Before?
Yes, but only if you haven't opened or closed the exact same Citi AAdvantage card within the past 24 months.
Can I Apply for Both Citi AAdvantage Cards the Same Day?
No–space out your Citi credit card applications so you apply for one card now, and a second card only after 8 days or so. Citi tends to decline a second application if you apply for two cards within a week or less.
When Do AAdvantage Miles Expire?
AAdvantage miles expire if there's no activity in your account (no earning or redeeming of AAdvantage miles) within an 18 month period. It's easy to ensure activity, so don't let your miles expire! Also see Airline Miles Expiration Policies: Keep Airline Miles from Expiring.
Is the Companion Certificate That Comes with the CitiBusiness AAdvantage Card Worth It?
Emphatically no–not only would you have to spend $30,000 on your CitiBusiness AAdvantage card to earn the Companion Certificate, the certificate's only benefit is to give you a companion ticket for $99 + government taxes when you reserve a domestic economy class ticket within the 48 contiguous states. So good luck getting enormous value, since the certificate doesn't include business class or first class tickets or international tickets.
What Are the Best Uses for AAdvantage Miles?
Even after the AAdvantage Award Chart Devaluation, there are still some good uses for AAdvantage miles. You'll get the best value from your miles if you redeem for first class or business class awards on partners, for example:
- JAL First Class from the U.S. to Japan for 80K miles one way
- JAL Sky Suite Business Class from the U.S. to Japan for 60K miles one way
- Etihad A380 First Apartment from London to Sydney via Abu Dhabi for 115K miles one way (note this has very limited availability and generally last minute)
- Qatar First Class from Europe to Sydney via Doha for 115K miles one way (again, limited availability)
- Qatar Business Class from the U.S. to the Maldives via Doha for 70K miles one way
- Qatar First Class from Europe to Doha and Business Class Doha to the Maldives for 62,500 miles one way
- Air Tahiti Nui Business Class from Tahiti to New Zealand or Australia for 30K miles one way
