Top 10 Best Ways to Use Singapore KrisFlyer Miles

Top 10 Best Ways to Use Singapore KrisFlyer Miles - Singapore Suites A380

What are the best ways to use Singapore KrisFlyer miles? As Singapore KrisFlyer is a new Chase Ultimate Rewards Points transfer partner, I thought it would be helpful to TravelSort clients and readers to post on the top Singapore KrisFlyer awards, with a focus on flying Singapore Suites on the A380.

Currently, Singapore Airlines' A380 serves Hong Kong, London, Los Angeles, Melbourne, NYC, Paris, Shanghai, Sydney, Tokyo and Zurich, and A380 service to Mumbai and New Delhi starts May 30.

Certainly the best use of Singapore KrisFlyer miles will depend on your specific travel plans and travel preferences, but the following Singapore KrisFlyer award redemptions are focused on long flights where premium class travel is especially valuable in terms of allowing you to properly rest.

Please note: all miles quoted are for one way travel, and include the 15% online booking discount for Singapore flights. Singapore KrisFlyer does charge fuel surcharges on its own flights, but there are no fuel surcharges for United Airlines flights. All partner award flights must be booked by phone.

1. NYC (JFK) to Hong Kong (HKG) via FRA and SIN, Singapore Suites A380: 104,125 KrisFlyer miles

Singapore Suites on the A380 from NYC to Hong Kong via Frankfurt and Singapore is the route I flew recently prior to our stays at the Four Seasons Koh Samui, Thailand and Amanjiwo near Borobudur in Java, Indonesia. See:

It's a lot of flying, at over 28 hours total travel time and over 25 hours of flying, but hey, it's Singapore Suites 🙂 Another nice thing about having the transfer in Singapore is enjoying all the great Book the Cook options when departing Singapore for the Singapore to Hong Kong flight, and relaxing in the Singapore Airlines Private Room.

2. Singapore (SIN) to NYC (JFK) via Frankfurt (FRA), Singapore Suites A380: 93,500 KrisFlyer miles

Singapore Suites on the A380 is a great way to fly between NYC and Singapore, via Frankfurt, and total flying time on the Singapore to NYC one way is about 21 hours, with a 2 hour stop in Frankfurt. As described above, you'll be able to enjoy the more extensive Book the Cook choices flying out of Singapore's hub to Frankfurt, plus you're able to enjoy the Singapore Airlines Private Room before departure.

3. LA (LAX) to Singapore (SIN) via Tokyo (NRT), Singapore Suites A380: 91,375 KrisFlyer miles

LA to Singapore is nearly 19 hours of flight time in Singapore Suites on the A380, with 1.5 hours in Tokyo Narita. A great way to start a luxurious vacation in Asia.

4. Houston (IAH) to Singapore (SIN) via Moscow (DME), Singapore First Class: 93,500 KrisFlyer miles

While you'll be in Singapore First Class on the 777-300ER for these flights, not the A380, you'll still enjoy excellent Singapore Airlines service, and it's a good route to consider if Saver awards in Singapore Suites aren't available for your preferred dates.

5. San Francisco (SFO) to Hong Kong, Singapore First Class: 70,125 KrisFlyer miles

This nonstop route is in Singapore First Class on the 777-300ER, not Singapore Suites, but is a convenient way to get to Hong Kong if there's availability and if Cathay Pacific isn't available for your dates.

6. Houston (IAH) to Moscow (DME), Singapore First Class: 57,375 KrisFlyer miles

I flew Singapore First Class from Moscow to Houston a couple of years ago, and while it's Singapore First Class, not Singapore Suites, there was only one other passenger in the First Class cabin which made it almost a more private experience than my recent Singapore Suites flights. It's a great way to get to Europe if you can't get Saver award space on the NYC to Frankfurt A380 route, as long as you don't mind transiting Moscow.

7. Singapore (SIN) to London (LHR), Singapore Suites A380: 91,375 KrisFlyer miles

Singapore Suites between Europe and Singapore is more expensive per hour of flying than between the U.S. and Singapore, at about 6500-7100 Singapore KrisFlyer miles per hour, but for a 13-14 hour flight between Europe and Asia, it's hard to beat Singapore Suites as a way to fly. Plus, the Singapore Airlines New First Class is featured on the Singapore London route (the new first class and new business class will be rolled out progressively over 2015 on all the 777-300ER aircraft).

8. NYC (JFK) to Frankfurt (FRA), Singapore Suites A380: 57,375 KrisFlyer miles

The Singapore Suites A380 NYC to Frankfurt night flight is part of Singapore's longer flight to Singapore, but is also in my view the best way to fly to Europe, especially if you're on business and need to be productive the day you arrive. Given that it's such a short flight, I recommend you forego the meal service and get right to sleep in your suite.

9. NYC (EWR) to Hawaii (HNL), United BusinessFirst: 30,000 KrisFlyer miles

While personally it's hard for me to get excited about United BusinessFirst, if you have a glut of Ultimate Rewards points, AMEX Membership Rewards points or Starwood points that you can transfer to Singapore KrisFlyer along with lots of date flexibility, you can save miles on United's BusinessFirst nonstop service between NYC (EWR) and Hawaii (HNL). It would be 40,000 United miles each way, but with Singapore KrisFlyer it's just 30,000 each way, 60,000 miles roundtrip.

As noted above, you'll need to call Singapore KrisFlyer to book this award, it cannot be booked online.

10. NYC (EWR) to LA (LAX), United BusinessFirst: 20,000 KrisFlyer miles

In the same vein, you can save 5000 miles each way on United BusinessFirst flat bed service between NYC and LAX or SFO: it's 20,000 KrisFlyer miles each way, vs. 25,000 United miles each way. As with all KrisFlyer partner awards, this must be booked by calling.
