Park Hyatt Maldives: Most Expensive Extra Bed Fee Ever?

Park Hyatt Maldives: Most Expensive Extra Bed Fee Ever?

Does the Park Hyatt Maldives have the most expensive extra bed fee ever? In fact, it's a fee for ANY child, whether an extra bed is needed or not–more on this below.

First, let me say that The Park Hyatt Maldives at Hadahaa was a fantastic family vacation for us–so much so, that the munchkin has wanted to return to the Maldives more than any other place he's been to. Among the things he enjoyed were:

Beautiful and uncrowded pristine beaches:

Very clear water and a great house reef, which enabled us to see fish and sharks right from the pier. I didn't get a good picture using my camera, but you can see how clear the water is in this photo:

Doing a complimentary sunset yoga class with a wonderful yoga instructor (who used to teach kids yoga in India)

So naturally I've recommended the resort to other families, and clients of mine are considering booking it now, especially with the Park Hyatt Maldives Water Villa Virtuoso Confirmed Double Upgrade at Time of Booking. But talk about sticker shock, when I inquired about their two kids staying in the room with them.

When we stayed, in 2012, my son's extra rollaway bed was complimentary. Here's his complimentary rollaway bed in our Park Pool Villa:

Now, the Park Hyatt Maldives is charging $250 per child per night–that would be $500 per night for two children, or $2000 extra for a 4 night stay.

Now, I'm used to advising my clients of extra bed charges, which at the hotels I book tend to range from complimentary for kids (most Four Seasons resorts) to $85 for some Manhattan hotels. But $250 per night per kid–really?! This is especially striking to me, since when I book clients at the Four Seasons Maldives at Landaa Giraavaru or the Four Seasons Maldives at Kuda Huraa, an extra rollaway bed for a child under 18 is complimentary.
