Current New York Restaurant Deals include an AMEX See Your City $10 statement credit on $50 of dining at a participating restaurant, which can be combined with BlackboardEats. Here's how to take advantage of both:
AMEX See Your City Eats Offer
I find AMEX offers, at least for my husband and me, have become pretty worthless. While there have been a few good targeted offers such as Amazon (which we weren't targeted for) most are for overpriced stores and mediocre we have no interest in patronizing.
But the See Your City offer is interesting, as most NYC restaurants qualify. Here are the details:
- Register your AMEX card
- Check that your restaurant qualifies by searching for it on the See Your City: Eats Edition Map
- Spend $50 or more at a qualifying restaurant between through September 30, 2015 in a single transaction using your enrolled AMEX card
- Receive a $10 statement credit
FAQ
Which AMEX Cards Are Eligible?
An “eligible American Express Card” is a valid American Express Card issued in the U.S. Corporate Cards and all prepaid card products (other than registered American Express Serve® and Bluebird® Cards) are not eligible.
Which NYC Restaurants Qualify?
Most NYC restaurants that are coded as restaurants appear to be eligible, but I was unable to get several of our favorite restaurants to appear on the map, such as Somtum Der, Gramercy Tavern and Tsushima. And of course the restaurant must accept AMEX for this to work. To be on the safe side, you may want to stick to restaurants that you can get to appear on the
map.
Which NYC Restaurants Do You Recommend?
Among the NYC restaurants that we enjoy and that appear on the AMEX map, I recommend:
What If the Restaurant Uses Square or Another Third Party Credit Card Reader?
If the restaurant doesn't process your AMEX card itself, then you most likely won't receive the statement credit. The restaurant has to directly process your card for you to receive the AMEX statement credit.
How Many Statement Credits Can I Receive?
You can receive a maximum of one statement credit per enrolled card, but you can enroll multiple AMEX cards and receive one statement credit for each of them. And remember, you could always purchase a $50 gift certificate if you prefer to dine at the restaurant later, not during September.
When Will I Receive My Statement Credit?
Terms say to allow up to 90 days after the offer end date of September 30, for the statement credit to appear.
BlackboardEats
I've become a fan of
BlackboardEats New York. True, some of the restaurants I have no interest in dining at, but about 25% of the restaurants are ones I want to try, and the perks can range from a free appetizer per person to 30% off the check.
Citi card members often get a little extra perk, such as a complimentary drink or dessert, and an additional month to use the Blackboard Eats benefit. Interestingly, you just need to be a Citi cardmember; you don't actually have to pay with a Citi credit card, or at least so far we haven't had to.
The current Blackboard Eats offer is for a complimentary appetizer at Runner & Stone, with a Citi extra perk of a complimentary specialty bread (the head baker, Peter Endriss, previously led the baking program at 3 Michelin star Per Se) so we plan to dine there and pay with our enrolled AMEX for the $10 statement credit.
There's also a previous Blackboard Eats offer that we got (no longer available–Blackboard Eats has 1 live offer at a time) for Clinton Street Baking Company, so that's another place you can go if you already claimed the Blackboard Eats deal for free pancakes at dinner (with 1 entree order per person) and receive the $10 AMEX statement credit.
And another Blackboard Eats offer, also no longer available, is 30% off Murray's Cheese Bar, so that's another place we plan to triple dip, with 30% off, a complimentary dessert, and the $10 AMEX statement credit.
Do you plan to take advantage of the AMEX See Your City Offer and/or Blackboard Eats deals?
