There's a United MileagePlus Explorer up to 55K bonus offer, which I'll describe how to get below, since it's better than the 30K public offer. But more importantly, it may be possible to earn the signup bonus again, if you last received a signup bonus for this exact card over 24 months ago, and are not a current cardholder.
First, here's how to see the United MileagePlus Explorer 50K bonus offer (with additional 5K from adding an authorized user):
1. Log into Your United MileagePlus Account
First, log into your United MileagePlus account.
2. Once You're Logged In, Paste in the 50K Link
After logging into your United MileagePlus account, paste this link into your browser to access the 50K offer. You should see the 50K offer screen in the first image of this post, or a similar one such as below.
3. Only Apply Again If You Don't Have the Card and Earned the Bonus Over 24 Months Ago
Unlike Citi, Chase will approve you for a new card even if you're deemed ineligible for the signup bonus. So if you've had this exact card in the past, I'd only recommend applying if you're sure you earned the signup bonus (not just applied for the card) over 24 months ago.
4. 5000 Bonus Miles for an Authorized User
To make this a 55K bonus offer, you'll need to add an authorized user to your account within the first 3 months of opening the account.
FAQ
Am I Eligible to Earn the United MileagePlus Explorer 55K Signup Bonus Again, as a Prior Cardholder?
Potentially, yes. Here are Chase's terms and conditions: “This new cardmember bonus offer is not available to either (i) current cardmembers of this consumer credit card, or (ii) previous cardmembers of this consumer credit card who received a new cardmember bonus for this consumer credit card within the last 24 months.”
That indicates that you can't currently be a cardmember, and you can't have received a signup bonus for this exact card within the last 24 months. If you earned the bonus for this card more than 24 months ago, however, you could earn the bonus again.
Is It Worth Earning United Miles After the United Award Chart Devaluation?
It depends on your travel plans. While I wouldn't use United miles for Asiana First Class, since partner first class awards went up >80% with the devaluation, I book a lot of clients to Hawaii on honeymoons and anniversary trips to Four Seasons Hualalai and Four Seasons Maui at Wailea, and they want a comfortable flat bed seat to get there. United offers this between NYC (EWR) and Honolulu, and on one of its flights between San Francisco and Honolulu, although generally at the standard award level. Many clients continue to use United miles for awards as well, because there aren't fuel surcharges.
