British Airways: No More Fuel Surcharges on Award Flights from Brazil

British Airways is once again not imposing fuel surcharges on flights from Brazil, after about a week of charging fuel surcharges on ex-Brazil flights. Here's an example of a Club World flight from Sao Paulo to Paris via London (no stopover), which is 69,000 Avios + $65.89 in taxes (same as before British Airways imposed fuel surcharges):

And for a Club World flight from Rio to London, it's 60,000 Avios + $36 in taxes (same as before British Airways imposed fuel surcharges):

Note that if you want to stopover in London, it's best to do that on your way to Paris, since you'll pay less departure tax on a shorter flight. As you can see, it's only about $53 more for a stopover in London, than the same trip with no stopover. Now, this probably isn't worth it to you if you're simply trying to avoid fuel surcharges and have zero interest in visiting Brazil, given that you have to get yourself to Brazil using additional miles/points or pay for a flight there, not to mention the time involved and that U.S. citizens need a Brazilian visa that costs about $160 (at least it's valid for 10 years).

But if you're interested in visiting Brazil anyway and/or have more time and miles/points than money, this could be for you. Here's how a return from Paris to New York prices, in Club World:

And in Economy, which is half the Avios (British Airways Business Class is always 2x the Avios) but only $87 less in taxes and fees. As a rule, on British Airways, if you have the Avios, you may as well fly Business Class, given the high taxes/fees into and out of London.

As mentioned above, it's best to avoid stopping over in London prior to your transatlantic (or any long) flight, as it would add almost $200 to the taxes and fees:
