35K SPG AMEX and 35K SPG Business AMEX

There are 35K SPG AMEX and 35K SPG Business AMEX signup bonus offers again available, nearly one year after the first 35K SPG AMEX bonus offer appeared last March 3, 2016. The normal signup bonus for each of these cards is 25,000 Starpoints, and each year (usually around September) there's a higher 30K signup bonus.

Note that this year, there's a higher spend requirement to earn the full 35,000 bonus points. For the personal card, you have to spend a total of $5000, and for the SPG Business, the minimum spend is $8000 to earn the bonus.

If you're new to travel credit cards, you may wonder why the excitement over such a small bonus, compared with, say, the recent 100,000 Chase Sapphire Reserve or even the current 80,000 Ink Business Preferred. The reason is that Starpoints can transfer to many different airline frequent flyer programs, most of them 1:1, and there's a built-in 25% bonus when transferring in increments of 20,000 points, so 20,000 Starpoints becomes 25,000 Lufthansa Miles & More miles or 25,000 Alaska miles, etc. For more on this, see SPG Airline Partners: Transfer Starwood Points to Miles.
