Mandarin Oriental Milan Location and Check-in
The Mandarin Oriental Milan is located in the city center, although its Via Andegari, 9 address is tucked away on a quiet side street. The Milan Duomo (Cathedral) is just an 8 minute walk away, and the Santa Maria delle Grazie, where The Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci is located, is about a 25 minute walk. It's about a 40 minute drive to Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP), depending on traffic. If arriving by train, Milano Centrale is only about 8 minutes away by public transit; take the Metro line 3 to the Montenapoleone Station and walk about 3 minutes to the hotel.
We arrived by train, and were able to leave our bags at reception while visiting the Duomo. When we returned, there was no wait to complete our check-in, and our upgraded Junior Suite was ready for us.

Mandarin Oriental Milan Junior Suite
The Mandarin Oriental Milan has 104 rooms and suites, in its wholly renovated four interconnected 18th century buildings. Because it's formed from these different buildings, rooms and suites are unique, with different shapes and configurations.
Rooms range from the entry level Superior, ~380 sq. ft. in size, to Mandarin Rooms, ~480 square feet. Junior Suites, which should arguably be in the room category, since they don't have a separate bedroom, are ~540 square feet, with a sofa. That said, the sofa in our Junior Suite was shifted, in order to make room for our son's extra bed.

There was a cute Mandarin Oriental plush panda on his bed:

Other welcome amenities included this fruit bowl and panda and colored “pencil” sweets for our son:

The bathroom was very spacious, with double sinks, a stand alone oval soaking tub, and a glass enclosed rain shower.

Breakfast and Restaurants at the Mandarin Oriental Milan
Breakfast is served in the Mandarin Bar & Bistrot from 7-10:30am daily. The breakfast buffet was excellent, and included whole fresh fruit and fresh berries (raspberries, blueberries, blackberries); smoked salmon, cold cuts, fresh mozzarella cheese, yogurts, hot dishes such as crispy bacon, dim sum and chicken congee, and a great selection of pastries and sweets, including a fantastic ricotta cheesecake with berry topping. Kudos to Pastry Chef Nicola Di Lena for this and also the wonderful mignardises at Seta.
.
The Mandarin Oriental Milan's signature restaurant is Seta, headed by Chef Antonio Guida; see our Review: Seta Milan 2 Michelin stars.
.
Mandarin Oriental Milan Spa and Pool
The hotel's Spa is open 9am-9pm, and offers 6 private treatment rooms, including a dedicated Thai massage room and two couples suites. The Fitness Center is open 24 hours a day for hotel guests using their card key, and the indoor swimming pool is open 7am-10pm (although closed temporarily December 18-21, 2019). Those wanting to swim laps or not swim with families and kids should aim to go early or late, since there are family swim hours 10:30-12:30pm and 3-5pm.

The Verdict
We enjoyed our stay at the Mandarin Oriental Milan. It remains our top Milan luxury hotel recommendation for clients, thanks to its central yet serene location, well appointed rooms (keep in mind the layout of each room is unique, due to the historical buildings it's located in), professional service, and excellent dining. Breakfast in particular was a delight, with an extensive buffet ranging from fresh berries, smoked salmon, fresh mozzarella cheese and perfectly ripe tomatoes to dim sum and chicken congee to superb cheesecake and excellent cappuccino. Highly recommended for a Milan stay.
