Office Max is offering a Visa gift card deal for March 2-8: Buy at least $250 in Visa gift cards, and receive $15 off at the register. Your best bet is buying two $200 Visa gift cards with your Ink Bold or Ink Plus, to earn 1995 Ultimate Rewards points ($413.90 – $15 = $398.90 x 5X).
Unfortunately the limit is 2 $15 discounts per customer, although you may be lucky and not have the limit enforced–it will depend on your local Office Max. Here are the details:
- Buy at least $250 in Visa Gift Cards and receive $15 off
- Valid March 2 – 8
- In-store only at Office Max locations
- Limit 2 offers per customer
While you can of course use the Visa gift cards anywhere that accepts Visa, I prefer to use Amazon Payments to cash out gift cards, and those with a Walmart nearby can load gift cards to their Bluebird by setting the gift card PIN to use it as a debit card.
Ultimate Rewards points aren't worth as much as they used to be, after the United Award Chart Devaluation and the less drastic Hyatt Award Chart Devaluation, but I'm still willing to earn Ultimate Rewards points at 5X. Particularly if you're planning United award travel within North America or to Hawaii, Mexico, the Caribbean, Central American and South America, mileage levels are either wholly unaffected or only went up slightly–it's the first class and business class partner awards to Europe and Asia that were hardest hit.
Unfortunately for me and others in Manhattan, the Brooklyn Office Max isn't that convenient, so I most likely won't be taking advantage of this. But if you're stopping at Office Max anyway this week, it could be worth seeing if you could pick up several cards, notwithstanding the one per person limit.
