The Fullerton Sydney Will Open October 18, 2019, a rebrand of the former Westin Sydney. This will mark the Fullerton's first international expansion, from its two Singapore luxury hotels, The Fullerton Hotel Singapore and The Fullerton Bay Hotel Singapore.
At first blush, it might seem odd for Sydney to be The Fullerton's first international location–why not closer to Singapore, rather than a nearly 8 hour flight away on Singapore Airlines, Qantas or British Airways?
But in fact, there are similarities when it comes to the heritage buildings: both The Fullerton Singapore and The Fullerton Sydney occupy the former General Post Office; Singapore's was built in 1928 and in 2015, designated Singapore's 71st national monument. Sydney's General Post Office (GPO) at 1 Martin Place was constructed starting in 1866, designed by colonial architect James Barnet, and was Sydney's best known landmark for over 50 years, until the Sydney Harbour Bridge was built in 1932.
As part of the rebranding, the Fullerton Sydney committed to conservation and restoration of the sandstone facades that front George Street and Martin Place.
