Chase is Targeting a 5X Bonus on Grocery and Gas Spend for August-September 2020 to some United, IHG and Southwest card holders; try to activate on the Chase Bonus page to see if you're targeted.
While this isn't quite as good as the 5X on Groceries with the Chase Sapphire Reserve card in May-June 2020, which didn't require any activation and also resulted in more valuable Ultimate Rewards points, instead of United MileagePlus miles, IHG points or Southwest Rapid Rewards points, it's a decent offer if you're targeted and don't have a card with a higher category bonus for grocery and/or gas.
With the Q2 2020 Chase Freedom 5X for grocery stores, the Q3 2020 Chase Freedom 5X on Amazon and Whole Foods, the prior 5X on groceries with the CSR and now this 5X on groceries and gas with various United, IHG and Southwest cobranded cards, Chase is very dialed into the current pandemic spending categories.
Here are the offer details:
- Must activate the offer on the Chase Bonus page
- Earn 5X points per dollar on grocery store and gas station spend from 8/01/2020 to 9/30/2020
- May earn a total of 5X points per dollar on an activated card, up to a combined total of $1500 per month (e.g. $1200 in grocery spend + $300 in gas spend, or any other combination)
- Eligible United cards are the United Explorer Card, United MileagePlus Card, United MileagePlus Select Card, United MileagePlus Awards Card.
