Bevri Restaurant in Palo Alto is one of the few Georgian restaurants in the Bay Area, so we were excited to try it.
.
Bevri Restaurant Location and Hours
Bevri is located at 335 University Avenue in downtown Palo Alto. The restaurant is open daily for lunch and dinner, from 11:30am-9pm Sundays-Thursdays, and 11:30am-10pm Fridays and Saturdays. There's seating indoors, as well as a few outdoor tables on the sidewalk patio.

Bevri Restaurant Menu and Food
Menus were already at our table. It was interesting to note Bevri's service included, “no tipping necessary” policy, and from that perspective, I found the menu items very reasonably priced.

I always like to start a Georgian meal with pkhali, which are vegetable pates such as spinach or beet with ground walnuts and herbs. These ones were quite small servings, but tasty.

.
Our teen was keen to try the Fried Artichoke with walnut Baje sauce, served atop cheesy mashed potatoes, and it was delicious–an excellent appetizer choice.

.
Given how much we all like khachapuri, we ordered two Khachapuri Adjaruli, with Georgian sulguni and imeruli cheese baked into a boat shape and topped with an egg, which is cooked tableside by mixing it into the hot cheeses. We ate it by tearing off hunks of piping hot bread and dunking them in the cheeses: one of the most primal, satisfying ways to enjoy bread and cheese.

.
We also ordered the Chalaghaji, pork ribs smothered in a wonderfully sweet-spicy ajika sauce, atop tashmijab (cheesy mashed potatoes), which our server noted was his favorite dish. We can see why–the meat was incredibly tender and succulent, and the sauce had just the right amount of kick to it.

The Verdict
If we could move one restaurant closer to us, Bevri would be among the top three. Georgian food may seem deceptively simple because of its freshness, but it's quite time consuming to make khachapuri, pkhali, and many other Georgian dishes (other than tomato and cucumber salad) from scratch. Not only was everything we ordered delicious, service was attentive and friendly, which isn't always the case for restaurants at this price point. And huge props for baking all service and gratuity into the prices: there wasn't even the option to leave a tip, an enormous change from San Francisco restaurants, where often an up to 7% surcharge is added to cover “San Francisco employer mandates,” even before discretionary gratuity.
