A Virgin America JFK – LAX – FLL economy one way is currently $122, enabling you to just fly NYC to Los Angeles for $122, thanks to hidden city ticketing, via Dan and this Flyertalk thread.
Now, this will only work for certain dates, and only via Priceline–you won't be able to get this via the Virgin America site. You also, for obvious reasons, shouldn't check any luggage if you're planning not to fly the LAX-FLL segment, and do read my prior post, Hidden City Ticketing Airfare Savings and Risks before deciding if this is for you.
It's also worth noting that there's currently 20% off Virgin America flights if you book by tomorrow October 14, 11:59 PT, for travel October 20 – December 17, 2014, by using LOVE20. The hidden city ticketing of JFK-LAX-FLL and FLL-LAX-JFK only works for select dates, but does work for some dates in January, February and March 2014, so it's a way to save some for travel into 2015.
You will have to either buy a one way ticket back or find award availability for your return. Still, if paired with a $169 on JetBlue, you'd have a coast to coast roundtrip for just $291 per person, which is very decent.
