TravelSort is Hiring!

Ben’s recent post seeking a new hire resonated—as with him, I'm putting rather crazy hours into TravelSort, helping members (and friends and relatives) score amazing luxury hotel deals, combined with raising a future traveler, aka “the munchkin.” Plus (gulp) we have 4 interns starting with us in January!

So, I’m seeking a Marketing Guru who’s passionate about helping more luxury travelers discover and book their perfect luxury hotel with TravelSort.

Here’s what we’re looking for:

  • A Guerrilla Marketing Guru: you’ve done amazing marketing campaigns on a startup (read shoestring) budget—videos that have gone viral, industry press through your connections, affiliate marketing, iPhone app launches and more. You love a/b testing and can dream up six or more impossible things before breakfast…and then actually execute on a few of them and make them successful!
  • Passionate About Travel and TravelSort: While your marketing experience doesn’t need to have been in travel (although startup marketing for a consumer product is a huge plus) it is important that you have a strong passion for travel, especially helping people find their perfect luxury or boutique hotel for less, since, well, that’s what we’re about.
  • Great Mentor: Remember those 4 marketing interns we have starting in January? We’d like you to help mentor them, and leverage their individual strengths to jumpstart the marketing initiatives we have planned.
  • Committed and Hungry: We’re looking for 15-25 hours/week in January, and at least 10 hours/week after that, and we need to be able to rely on you. Please only apply if you can make this time commitment and are genuinely excited about working with us. While there is a fine line between being hungry and being annoyingly pushy, if you're emailing us great, actionable marketing ideas and how you'd want to drive the business forward, you have a stronger chance than a candidate who may look a bit more skilled on paper but isn't as hungry or driven.

Other useful skills:

  • Interviewing models/actresses (we’ll explain!)
  • Managing to persuade all your family and friends to try something new—say a new hotel that you stayed at, a new travel site, or to become miles/points collectors.
  • Patiently and nicely explaining to clients that no, Virtuoso benefits and loyalty points cannot be combined with our rates—that’s why they get to save several hundred dollars.
  • Asking me if I’ve had my coffee yet, if I’m incoherent in the morning 🙂

Pay will be a combination of cash and equity compensation (yep, you’ll own a piece of TravelSort!)

In terms of timing, we're looking to gather interest over the next week, so by 12/19, then speak to folks that seem to be the best fit over the week after that and start working together right after New Year's.

Does any of this sound like you? Or someone you know? If so, please email me at concierge [at] travelsort [dot] com and tell me about yourself, the successful marketing campaigns (especially for startups) that you’ve led, and why you’d love to work with TravelSort. Although right now we’re most urgently looking for a marketing guru, we’re always interested in great student interns as well—if your school allows you to do an an internship as an independent study for school credit and you’re passionate about startup marketing, drop me a line at the email above.
