2017 Update: See our Four Seasons Kyoto Hotel Review
The Four Seasons Kyoto is one of the Top 2016 New Luxury Hotel Openings I highlighted last year, and is scheduled to open October 15, 2016. For such a scenic, culturally significant and popular destination, it's amazing that Kyoto doesn't have more of a luxury hotel presence. There's the Ritz-Carlton Kyoto, which opened in 2014…and that's really it in terms of international luxury hotels. So Four Seasons Kyoto should up the ante considerably, although expect to pay well over $1000 a night for even entry-level rooms, given the paucity of luxury hotel rooms in Kyoto. The Four Seasons Kyoto will have just 123 rooms and suites, and the Ritz-Carlton has just 134 rooms and suites.
Reservations aren't open yet (or rather, they were open briefly, but aren't at the moment) but will open soon, so I highly recommend that TravelSort Clients planning a trip to Kyoto in late 2016 or in 2017 contact us now so as to be able to reserve the hotel with Preferred Partner benefits when reservations open. Here are the Four Seasons Preferred Partner benefits:
- Daily full American breakfast for two people per bedroom, served through In-Room Dining or in the hotel restaurant (including buffets)
- Food and beverage credit of USD100
- Upgrade of one category, based on availability at time of check-in (excluding signature suites and villas)
- Complimentary basic Internet in all guest rooms, complimentary premium Internet in all suites.
There's also an Introductory Offer of JPY 12,000 dining credit at The Brasserie Restaurant, which is combinable with the Preferred Partner amenities.
Where is Four Seasons Kyoto Located?
Four Seasons Kyoto is located at 447-1 Myohoin Maekawa-cho, Higashiyama-ku, just a 9 minute drive or 20 minute walk from Gion, a 20 minute drive to Ginkaku-ji Temple, and a 10 minute drive or 20 minute train ride from Kyoto Station. The hotel is set across from a lovely 800 year old pond garden (ikeniwa).
Four Seasons Kyoto Room and Suite Types
Even the entry-level Deluxe Room is spacious for a city hotel, at 527-570 square feet, particularly by Japanese standards. These will be the largest standard guest rooms in Kyoto, and as with all other rooms and suites, they have floor to ceiling windows, with views of Myoho-in Temple. Deluxe Room bathrooms have a deep soaking tub, separate rain shower, and embedded TV in the mirror over the double vanity with his and hers sinks. Deluxe Rooms are on floors 1-5, with either 1 king or 2 double beds, and accommodate 3 adults or 2 adults and 1 child.
Deluxe City View Rooms on the 3rd floor offer city views and a larger room, at 656 square feet, while Deluxe Garden View Rooms are 560-570 square feet but enjoy scenic views of the Japanese Garden. The highest room category, the Four Seasons Room, is 570 square feet and located on the 4th floor, with garden views and a 64 square feet private balcony.
The Four Seasons Executive Suite is 764-818 square feet, with a separate bedroom and living room, with both a master bath and a half bath/powder room. Suite bath products are by Lorenzo Villoresi. One Bedroom Suites are 1054-1108 square feet, with a master bedroom and master bathroom, as well as a separate living room with a work desk, a dining room table and a half bathroom/powder room. Views are of either Myoho-in Temple or the Japanese Garden. There is also a Presidential Suite that will be Kyoto's largest hotel suite, at 2637 square feet indoors, plus a 107 square feet private balcony outdoors.
The Presidential Suite offers a master bedroom with a king bed, and a second bedroom with two double beds, altogether accommodating 4 adults or 2 adults and 2 children, although an additional Deluxe Room may be connected to the Presidential Suite to form a third bedroom. The open plan living area and dining room seat up to 8 guests, and there are two full size marble bathrooms plus an additional half bath/powder room.
Four Seasons Kyoto Swimming Pool and Spa
The Spa at Four Seasons Kyoto will offer seven treatment rooms, including a couples' spa suite for couples' massages. Enjoy the indoor swimming pool or relax in the sauna, steam room or whirlpool. Hours are 10am-10pm.
Four Seasons Kyoto Dining
The hotel's main restaurant will be The Brasserie, where guests will enjoy breakfast (complimentary as a Four Seasons Preferred Partner benefit), with homemade breads and pastries a specialty. Lunches and dinners feature modern French and Italian style fare prepared with fresh, seasonal local ingredients. On nice days, dine al fresco on the terrace overlooking the garden.
For sushi lovers, reserve early at Sushi Wakon, created by Michelin-starred Chef Rei Masuda, as it has just 10 seats and is open for dinner only, 5:30-11:30pm.
