Better Credit Card Trip Delay and Trip Interruption Insurance with Citi Exec AAdvantage

Does your credit card include trip delay and trip interruption insurance? The Citi Executive AAdvantage card, which many got with the 100K Citi Executive AAdvantage offer (now expired) has improved its coverage, and since I'm emailed quite a bit about trip delay and trip interruption insurance, it's worth pointing out what will be changing. Note that the new coverage goes into effect November 23, 2014.

FAQ

When Do the New Coverage Benefits Take Effect?

November 23, 2014. Until then, the existing insurance coverage applies; note that current coverage does NOT include any trip delay insurance, delayed baggage insurance or medical evacuation insurance.

If I Pay the Taxes and Fees on Award Tickets with My Citi Executive AAdvantage Card, Am I Covered?

No–you would need to pay the FULL amount of your trip with your Citi Executive AAdvantage card, so award tickets where you pay taxes and fees with the card never provide insurance coverage. You would need to buy separate insurance coverage, for example from Travel Guard.

Do These Benefits Apply to Long Trips?

No–your trip must be less than 60 consecutive days long for the above insurance coverages to apply (31 or fewer consecutive days in the case of the worldwide car rental insurance).
