AMEX Business Gold Rewards Card: 75,000 Points for 2 Days Only

AMEX Business Gold Rewards Card 75000 Bonus Points

American Express is offering 75,000 Membership Rewards bonus points if you sign up for the AMEX Business Gold Rewards Card today or tomorrow and spend $10,000 in the first four months. This is a bit tighter than the 11/3/11 promotion, which also offered 75,000 MR points for the AMEX Business Gold Rewards Card but gave you 5 months for the $10,000 spend.

Much like the AMEX Premier Rewards Gold card, the AMEX Business Gold Rewards card offers 3X points on airfare and 2X points on gas spend; but instead of 2X points on grocery spend, it offers 2X points on advertising and shipping.

The hefty annual fee of $175 is waived for the first year.

Note that if you have had any AMEX Business Gold, Green or Platinum account within the last 12 months, you aren't eligible for the bonus. That means I'm not eligible, since I had the old version of this card, which I just closed recently as the retention offers weren't compelling enough. But if you haven't had one of the above AMEX business accounts in the past 12 months, this would be a great time to apply, as long as you can meet the significant minimum spend. A quick rundown of pros and cons:

Pros

  • 75,000 bonus points is as good an offer as you'll get for the AMEX Business Gold Rewards Card
  • Good for those that have significant airline spend, given the 3X bonus
  • Periodic transfer bonuses to British Airways Avios and Delta SkyMiles
  • Membership Rewards points transfer to Singapore KrisFlyer, enabling you to book Singapore First Class and Business Class

Cons

  • High $10,000 minimum spend for the bonus, especially if you only have a small business and not much reimbursable spend
  • Not eligible for offer if you've had an AMEX Gold, Green or Platinum business product within past 12 months
  • AMEX Membership Rewards points are not as valuable as Chase Ultimate Rewards points, and cannot be transferred into United miles or Hyatt points

It's good to apply for several credit cards on the same day, as the various issuers won't be able to see the other credit inquiries. If you don't already have them, I'd recommend applying for one or both of these (note that if you apply for both, you'll most likely need to call Chase reconsideration to get approved for at least one of them):

  • Hyatt Visa: You'll get 2 nights at any Hyatt, including Park Hyatts, after first use of the card (so no additional spend required) and this is one of the few U.S. EMV Chip cards that come standard with the chip (vs. having to request a card version with the chip)
  • Chase Freedom: Yes, it's only 10,000 bonus points after $500 spend within 3 months, but the huge value of the Chase Freedom lies in the 5X quarterly bonuses and Chase Exclusives if you have a Chase checking account. If you value Ultimate Rewards points, United miles or Hyatt points, you should have this card.
I recommend the cards above because they either have either just a first use (Hyatt) or $500 (Freedom) spend requirement for the bonus, but of course if you have heavy spend, check out Best Travel Credit Cards for other cards you may want to apply for.
