Why Cheval Blanc Randheli is the Best Luxury Resort in the Maldives

There are many luxury resorts in the Maldives, and I've been fortunate enough to have stayed at 6 different luxury resorts: Four Seasons Maldives at Landaa Giraavaru, Four Seasons Maldives at Kuda Huraa, Soneva Fushi, Park Hyatt Maldives, and the Conrad Maldives Rangali. Cheval Blanc Randheli is easily the best, for a number of reasons:

Most Spacious and Beautiful Villas in the Maldives

While Water Villas are often the higher or highest category villas in most Maldivian resorts, at Cheval Blanc Randheli, they are actually the entry level villa, even though at 2500 square feet they are larger than all other Maldivian resort water villas that are for a couple. Thanks to the size, there was more than ample room for us as a family, with our son sleeping on his own bed in the living room, which could be separated by the dividers. There was also a couple's rain shower, soaking tub, dual vanities, walk-in closet and dressing area, 1.5 baths, and even a butler's pantry with full sized fridge. And each of these water villas has its own private 40 foot long infinity pool–enough for laps and epic water fights alike. The temperature, lighting, shades and entertainment was all controlled via the villa's iPad, and I'm happy to say we had no bug or mosquito issues whatsoever, unlike some of the other places we've stayed in the Maldives.

Best Food

Anyone for whom excellent food is a priority owes it to themselves to stay at Cheval Blanc Randheli at least once. There's no question most Maldivian resorts that aren't a speedboat ride away from Male are remote, and so that's what we've told ourselves whenever we've been disappointed with the quality of our dinners in the Maldives relative to the price.

But Cheval Blanc Randheli is at another level. Le 1947 is at 2 or 3 Michelin star level, better than every Michelin star meal I've had in NYC to date, and similar in quality to Le Cinq, at Four Seasons Paris. And even our lower key Italian meal at Deelani was superb, both the pizza and pasta. At both restaurants the chefs came out to personally greet us, a wonderful touch. And for someone with a sweet tooth, I could scarcely believe how scrumptious all the welcome treats were, particularly the authentic French macarons and decadent housemade chocolates left at turndown service.

Best Lounge and Seaplane

Cheval Blanc Randheli's seaplane lounge isn't the largest in Male (you wouldn't expect it to be, since there are fewer than 50 villas) it's the nicest, with two oversized daybeds, comforable seating, WiFi and tablets, shower with Cheval Blanc bath products, an a la carte menu of fresh squeezed juices and snacks such as yogurt and pastries in the morning and quiche in the afternoon, and best of all a kids' play room that is well stocked with legos, kapla blocks, books, and toys for the youngest guests.

Cheval Blanc is also the only Maldivian resort to offer its own seaplane, with just 9 seats instead of the usual 16 or so seats, making for a more comfortable and less cramped flight.

Amazing Snorkeling

While I didn't have a chance to go scuba diving during our all too brief stay, I was treated to some amazing snorkeling by the head of the resort's water sports, who took me out on a boat about 15 minutes from the resort. We saw a variety of marine life, from Clark's Anemone Fish / Clown Fish and striking Clown Trigger Fish to Unicorn Fish and Neon Fusiliers, as well as a Turtle. But the highlight was seeing an octopus–make that two! I've never seen an octopus in the Maldives, so this was an incredible experience. See my short video at Snorkeling with an Octopus, Cheval Blanc Randheli, Maldives.

Great Service and Attention to Detail

Cheval Blanc Randheli provides a Majordomo, or Butler, for each villa. While generally I find butler service gimmicky, ours was excellent, guiding us through all the villa features, reconfirming our dining, and even swapping out our welcome champagne for a white wine that we preferred, and allowing us to drink it at one of the restaurants, which we appreciated.

Beautiful and complimentary designer beach bags are provided (different ones for my husband, my son and I) as well as espadrille shoes and slippers. And an especially nice touch is that the resort launders, complimentary, up to three articles of your traveling attire. Yes, I was sheepish handing in my Columbia Sportswear shorts, but they came back looking like new.

The Bottom Line
I'm thrilled for my clients who are taking advantage of this Cheval Blanc Randheli offer to experience it for themselves and enjoy 1-2 complimentary nights. The only problem? Cheval Blanc Randheli is likely to spoil you for all other Maldivian resorts, and most other resorts in the world, for that matter.
