Chase Freedom Rewards: Activate Grocery Bonus by June 14 and $100 Off FreshDirect

June 14 is the last day to activate your Chase Freedom card to receive 5x on all grocery store and movie theater spend, through June 30. As we've written in Chase Exclusives Bonuses: Maximize Chase Freedom Ultimate Rewards Points the Chase Freedom is part of a triple play to maximize your Ultimate Rewards points:

1. Chase Freedom 5x bonuses +

2. an Ultimate Rewards card (eg Sapphire Preferred, Ink Bold etc.) +

3. a Chase checking account, so you get Chase Exclusives bonuses of 10% on all base points and 10 bonus points per transaction

Our family has especially enjoyed the 5x grocery bonus, and only wish there was a higher limit than $1500 for the 5x bonus points since we've already exceeded it. The rest of our grocery spend rhrough June will go on the AMEX Premier Rewards Gold card. It only awards 2x points per dollar of grocery spend, but I need to pay back an AMEX points advance that I did to take advantage of the 50% AMEX Transfer Bonus to British Airways.

If you haven't yet maxed out the Chase Freedom $1500 limit for 5x points on grocery spend, you could:

Stock up on non-perishables and even non-grocery items at Target and Walmart, since you'll get 5X back, at least if the Target or Walmart has a grocery section. Note that warehouse clubs such as Costco and Sams Club are *not* included and you won't receive 5x points for groceries purchased there.

Double dip by buying gift cards at the grocery store, then going to the Chase Ultimate Rewards Mall, clicking through to the store you have a gift card for (ideally it has a good bonus in June!) so that you get 5x plus the additional Ultimate Rewards Mall bonus

My own favorite store is Trader Joe's, but I recently received a coupon for Fresh Direct that I'll share with you. Fresh Direct provides grocery delivery mainly in NYC. Their Web site says “We deliver to most addresses in Manhattan, Staten Island, The Bronx and Bergen County, and to many neighborhoods in Brooklyn, Queens, Nassau, Westchester, Hudson, Union, Essex, Morris, Passaic and southern Fairfield Counties.”

So, sorry if this doesn't apply to you; if you know someone in the NYC area, maybe they can use this deal though. My coupon is for new Fresh Direct customers, and gives you $50 off each of your first two orders if they each total $125 before taxes and delivery fees, using code DM5515. I can't guarantee it will work, as I don't know whether it's a unique code that can only be used by a single individual, but hopefully it will work for you too.

I have already used the coupon once, and it was correctly coded as grocery, so the balance of your order will earn 5x points with your activated Chase Freedom card, or 2x points if using the AMEX Premier Rewards Gold card.

In terms of what to order, I must say that I missed a number of my favorite items from Trader Joe's, which isn't surprising since Trader Joe's focuses on unique private label products at low prices. So instead of trying to buy substitutes, I mostly bought fresh wild Alaskan King Salmon, which is in season and not available at Trader Joe's as far as I know. I simply spread the fillets with some high quality creme fraiche, sprinkled with a little salt, freshly ground pepper and dill and roasted it in a preheated 420 degree oven for about 13 minutes.
