This Review of the Residents' Beach House at the Four Seasons Hualalai in Kona, Hawaii is part of our 2021 site inspection stay. As the name implies, it's primarily for owners and guests staying in Hualalai villas and private residences (these are not managed by Four Seasons Hualalai, so those renting villas and residences not only have to pay extra to access Four Seasons Hualalai pools and resort amenities; they get lower priority than Four Seasons guests during holiday seasons and periods of high occupancy).

Residents' Beach House Location, Hours, and Reservations
The Residents' Beach House is reached by walking south along the beach or along the Hualalai Golf Course, a ways past the adults only Palm Grove pool. Note that for dinner, which is served 5:30-8:30pm daily, resort guests must wait until 3pm the same day they wish to dine to make a reservation, so we recommend having a backup dinner reservation elsewhere, in case you don't get in. The other option is to go for lunch, when no reservation is needed, which is 11:30am-2:30pm.
In our case, we didn't get a dinner reservation, but we chose to go early in the hopes of a walk-in reservation. If a resident no shows for a reservation and it's 15-30 minutes past the scheduled reservation time, the Residents' Beach House can give the table to a walk-in, which is how we got a table close to the beach. Towards the end of our dinner, we had an unobstructed view of a beautiful sunset:

Residents' Beach House Menu and Food
Although casual, the Residents' Beach House offers plenty of choices, so there should be something for everyone in your family, even for relatively picky eaters. In our case, our son wanted pizza, my husband felt like chicken, and I wanted a light fish dish, plus we needed a vegetable to share–all easily accommodated.
.
Our son requested his Italian Sausage pizza without jalapeno peppers, which was honored, and he enjoyed his pizza. I sampled some, and it was fine, although not overly memorable–I much preferred the Hamakua mushroom pizza we later tried at Beach Tree.
.
My husband got the half Huli Huli Chicken with maple bbq sauce. Note that all the grilled items come ungarnished, so you'll need to separately order side dishes for vegetables. He polished his dish off so quickly I didn't even get a bite (so it must have been pretty good).
.
The fish of the day was Mongchong, a kind of pomfret, and the simple Chinese style steaming, with Asian pesto and sizzling oil, was perfect for it.
.
The Residents' Beach House had our favorite desserts of the stay, although admittedly we only tried desserts at Beach Tree and ‘Ulu on this trip. They weren't fancy, just simple and satisfying.
.
We tried both the Hualalai Mud Pie, with housemade Kona coffee ice cream (fantastic) and the Triple Chocolate Mousse Cake, which was such a large piece and so rich that we ended up taking much of it back to our room, where it kept well in the mini bar. When we later had a disappointing dessert at Beach Tree, we enjoyed the remains of this decadent chocolate cake back in our room.
.
The Verdict
We'd always wanted to try the Residents' Beach House, but weren't able to on prior visits due to the reservation policy, and this time we got in only because of a no show. It's more casual and low key than both ‘Ulu and Beach Tree, and it was just what we felt in the mood for our first evening. Think comfort food, and your expectations will be set appropriately. Most memorable was my Catch of the Day, thanks to the Asian pesto and sizzling oil, along with the satisfying Hualalai Mud Pie and Triple Chocolate Mousse Cake.
