Review: Laucala Lounge, Nadi Airport

Laucala Island recently opened its own lounge at Nadi Airport. The private island has only 25 private villas, and its own landing strip that many celebrities arrive at by private jet, so unlike, say, Maldives resorts that everyone has to access via Male, not all guests even transit Nadi.

For guests that do arrive via Nadi, Laucala normally arranges the private flight 1 hour after you arrive, so it's not as though most guests are spending more than half an hour here, taking into account clearing immigration and customs. In that context, it's great to have a lounge at all.

Laucala Lounge Nadi Airport Location and Access

The Laucala Lounge at Nadi Airport is to the left of the international check-in desks, and identifiable by its handsome wooden door. It’s available to Laucala guests arriving in Nadi, before their flight to Laucala Island.

The Laucala Lounge offers wifi and comfortable seating, both on the main level and a lower level, down a few stairs.

Although there’s no food in the lounge (or at least not for our early morning visit at 7am) there’s a Nespresso machine, with similar ceramic cups to those at Laucala.

There’s also a fridge of cold soft drinks, including, of course, Red Bull, given that the owner of Laucala Island is Dietrich Matechitz, the billionaire founder of Red Bull.  Local beer, wine and sprits are also available, not that we wanted any alcohol that early in the morning.

The Verdict

Laucala’s lounge is small, as expected for a resort that some guests access by private plane, and that guests arriving in Nadi spend less than an hour at. But it is a very welcome addition for guests arriving at Nadi Airport, as it provides the chance to shower and refresh with a cold drink or espresso before continuing on the one hour private flight to the resort. Its Fijian design and accents, down to the ceramic cups for coffee and the spa bath products that are handmade on the island, also provide a preview of the island experience to come.

Have you been to the new Laucala Lounge on the way to Laucala Island?
