Medjet's COVID-19 Medical Transport Benefit is Now Global. This expansion to global coverage, which went into effect July 12, 2021, is great news for members or those considering a Medjet membership who are traveling to Europe, Asia/Oceania, South America, the Middle East, or Africa, since previously, Medjet medical transport for members hospitalized with COVID-19 was limited to the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean.
As we wrote in Medjet Medical Transport vs. Credit Card Evacuation Insurance, even travelers with a premium travel card such as the Chase Sapphire Reserve or AMEX Platinum or Centurion card would do well to consider Medjet, because emergency medical evacuation can easily run more than the credit card travel insurance limit of $100,000. Credit card emergency medical transport also requires approval by the benefits administrator, who reserves the right not to cover transport if “not medically necessary” as determined by the administrator. Medjet merely requires that you be stable enough to transport, and that the U.S. hospital that you wish to be transported to is willing to accept you as a patient.
The expansion of Medjet COVID-19 transport service globally is available to both existing and new MedjetAssist and MedjetHorizon memberships. Note that for COVID-19 transport, no traveling companions or family members are permitted to accompany the patient. Additionally, Medjet transport is only possible if permitted by the jurisdiction; Medjet can't bypass a quarantine that is enforced by a government or regulatory entity that has jurisdiction over the member.
