The 75,000 bonus points AMEX Business Gold Rewards Card is available, but with its usual $10,000 minimum spend, not the $5000 minimum spend that was offered several days ago.
So if you missed the previous 75,000 bonus points AMEX Business Gold Rewards Card offer for $5000 spend, should you apply for this one at double the spend? I'll get to that in a minute, but first, here are the offer terms:
- 75,000 Membership Rewards bonus points for spending $10,000 in the first 4 months
- Offer Bonus ID A3ZA
- Deadline of May 17, 2013
- “Welcome bonus offer not available to applicants who have had this product or any other Business Gold, Green or Platinum Card account within the last 12 months”
- No annual fee the first year, then $175
- 3X points on airfare purchased directly with airlines
- 2X points on advertising, shipping and gas stations
Note the eligibility: you're still eligible if you've have or had a personal AMEX card within the past 12 months; but not if you've had an AMEX business Gold, Green or Platinum card.
So is it worth it, assuming you're eligible? It could be if:
- Minimum Spend Isn't an Issue: There are folks with either very high reimbursable business expenses or simply high spend to put on credit cards
- Easy Access to Vanilla Reloads and/or Walmart: If either is true, you're able to fairly easily reload your AMEX Bluebird and use it to pay bills you'd normally have paid by check, and instead earn points. - You Value AMEX Membership Rewards Points Highly: You could transfer points to Singapore KrisFlyer to book Singapore First Class or Singapore Suites, or transfer to British Airways Avios to book Cathay First Class between NYC and Vancouver
- You Already Have Most of the Credit Cards You Want: It's hard for me to recommend the AMEX Business Gold Rewards card even with the 75,000 bonus points to someone who's starting out and isn't a big spender, because of the very high opportunity cost of that $10,000 minimum spend. But if you already have most of the rewards credit cards you want and aren't crowding out other high value spend towards bonuses, it's an easier decision. I wouldn't fret too much about it, since AMEX does come out with the 75,000 points/$10,000 minimum spend offer periodically and I expect we'll see it again later this year.
