Top Destinations That Have Loosened COVID-19 Restrictions

.

Several Travel Destinations Have Loosened Travel Restrictions as part of reopening post-pandemic, making it easier for visitors. Here are some of our favorites that have simplified either travel entry requirements or vaccine pass restrictions:

.

1. Maldives

From March 5, 2022, fully vaccinated visitors to the Maldives no longer have to provide a pre-travel COVID-19 test. Unvaccinated travelers must have negative results from a COVID-19 PCR test taken no earlier than 96 hours before the departure of the first leg of the traveler's flight to the Maldives. Only children under 1 (one) year of age are exempted from the test requirement, if unvaccinated.

Where to Stay in the Maldives

The Maldives have so many fantastic luxury resorts, but our favorites are Cheval Blanc Randheli and Velaa in Noonu Atoll and the Four Seasons at Landaa Giraavaru in Baa Atoll.

.

2. Italy

As of March 1, 2022, Italy allows all fully vaccinated or recently recovered from COVID-19 non-EU visitors to arrive in Italy without a negative COVID-19 test result, with no need to quarantine. As with France, arrivals will still need to complete the EU Digial Passenger Locator Form.

Where to Stay in Italy

Italy has some of our clients' favorite luxury hotels and resorts, including Belmond Castello di Casole and Castello Banfi Il Borgo in Tuscany; Caruso (also a Belmond property) and Monastero Santa Rosa on the Amalfi Coast; the Villa d'Este in Lake Como; the Grand Hotel Timeo in Sicily; the Belmond Villa San Michele and Four Seasons Firenze in Florence; and the Mandarin Oriental Milan.

.

3. France

France already permits fully vaccinated Americans to enter, with no COVID-19 test requirement. As of March 14, 2022, France will no longer require a vaccine pass (the pass sanitaire) to enter most indoor venues, with the exception of nursing homes, hospitals, and places where vulnerable people live. Masks will also not be required in most indoor public spaces, but they will continue to be required on all public transit, including trains, the metro, buses, taxis, rideshares, planes, ferries, and in transit hubs (airports, train stations, Metro stations). Masks are also required for both patients and visitors in hospitals, medical centers and nursing homes. Note that private businesses can make their own mask rules, so visitors should pay attention to what individual businesses may require.

Where to Stay in France

Paris is one of our best luxury hotel cities, where one is truly spoiled for choice. Among our favorites are the new Cheval Blanc Paris, The Peninsula Paris, and the legendary Four Seasons George V Paris.

Elsewhere in France, we recommend Villa La Coste near Aix-en-Provence, the Grand-Hotel du Cap-Ferrat, a Four Seasons Hotel and Chateau Saint-Martin & Spa on the French Riviera, and Cheval Blanc Courchevel.

.

4. Hawaii

Hawaii Safe Travels ends on March 25, 2022; starting 3/26/22, arrivals from the continental U.S. and Alaska no longer need to create a Safe Travels account or upload their vaccination or COVID-19 test documentation.

Where to Stay in Hawaii

Our top luxury resort recommendation in Hawaii right now is the recently renovated Four Seasons Hualalai, followed by its sister resorts, Four Seasons Maui at Wailea and Four Seasons Lanai. For extended families that would like a more condo-like setting, our clients have also enjoyed the Montage Kapalua Bay on Maui, and we have also assisted them with villa rentals with access to Four Seasons Hualalai resort amenities. See our recent post, Best Four Seasons Hawaii Offers 2022.

5. Ireland

As of 3/6/22, Ireland lifted its COVID-19 travel restrictions: travelers no longer need to provide proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test to enter the country, and there are no quarantine or post-arrival testing requirements.

In Dublin, clients have enjoyed The Merrion Hotel. In County Mayo, don't miss Ashford Castle.

.

6. Costa Rica

As of April 1, 2022, Costa Rica will no longer require arrivals to complete an online Health Pass, and unvaccinated visitors won't be required to purchase travel insurance that covers medical expenses and quarantine, although travel insurance is still highly recommended for all.

Where to Stay

Our top recommendation is the Four Seasons Costa Rica at Peninsula Papagayo, which has a 5th night free offer combinable with Four Seasons Preferred Partner benefits.

7. Australia

Australia has finally reopened to fully vaccinated visitors, effective 2/21/22. Note that visitors must provide negative results from a COVID-19 test, which can be a PCR test taken no more than 3 days before the flight departure, or a supervised rapid antigen test taken no more than 24 hours before the flight departure. Be sure to consult Australia's inbound international travel requirements for full details. Also be sure to apply for an electronic travel authorization (ETA) via the Australian ETA app, on your mobile phone.
