Review: Airspace Lounge, NYC JFK Terminal 5 Prior to JetBlue Flight

Review: Airspace Lounge JFK Terminal 5

This Airspace Lounge JFK, Terminal 5 Review is from our visit prior to a JetBlue Mint flight earlier this year, in 2018. Unfortunately, the lounge is closing effective August 31, 2018, for unspecified reasons.

Here's our Airspace Lounge JFK YouTube Review:

Airspace Lounge JFK Location

The Airspace Lounge at NYC JFK Airport is at Terminal 5, which is JetBlue's main terminal (Terminal 5 also serves Hawaiian Airlines and Aer Lingus). The lounge is located after security, between Gates 24 and 25, and is the only lounge in Terminal 5.

Airspace Lounge JFK Access

While anyone can pay $25 per person to access the lounge, access is complimentary for AMEX Platinum, AMEX Business Platinum and AMEX Centurion cardholders, and up to two guests.

Airspace Lounge JFK Amenities

The Airspace lounge is rather small. After you present your AMEX card and boarding pass, you're in a small downstairs seating area with a few tables, chairs and banquettes. It was quite busy during our visit on a Saturday morning.

A short flight of stairs leads to the bar area and additional seating, including bar-style work areas. The good thing is that power outlets are plentiful, so you should be able to recharge your devices without too much trouble.

There's a Conference Room for up to 6 people that is normally closed off; you'll need to ask the staff if you want to use it.

There's one shower room downstairs; you'll need to advise a staff member that you'd like to take a shower, so that s/he can provide you with a clean towel. A simple amenity kit is also provided, with a toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo and conditioner. The mirror by the sink has an embedded screen with the status of the departing flights, which is handy.

The shower has a rain shower head, although water pressure could be stronger.

Airspace Lounge JFK Menus and Food

The lounge offers complimentary soft drinks, tea and coffee, but you'll need to pay for food and other drinks. Fortunately you receive a $10 per person credit, so in our case, a $30 credit for my family of three. As you can see from the menu pricing, $10 doesn't go very far:

In the past we've tried the breakfast sandwich, which is fast food like, so we tend to stick with the simplest items, such as a bagel with cream cheese, Murray's cheese, and yogurt drinks.

The Verdict

The Airspace Lounge at JFK Terminal 5 is your only lounge choice in Terminal 5, and the lack of competition shows. I've visited the lounge four times, and three of those times the shower room or upstairs bathroom was rather messy.

On the one hand, since entrance is complimentary to AMEX Platinum and AMEX Business Platinum cardholders and up to two guests, I shouldn't be complaining. After all, the lounge is convenient for recharging devices, free WiFi, and a quick drink. But I certainly don't think the $25 per person charge is worth it if you have to pay for it (even with the $10 F&B credit), unless you badly need a shower and are able to take one (keep in mind there's just one shower room).

If you've visited the Airspace Lounge at JFK Terminal 5 recently, what was your experience?
