The Chase Freedom 5X Calendar Categories for Q3 2018 are Gas Stations, Lyft and Walgreens. This is for spend July – September, 2018. Don't forget as well that today, June 14, is the last day to activate 5X for Q2 2018 categories: grocery stores, PayPal and Chase Pay.
I'm rather disappointed that Restaurants, which has been a Chase Freedom Q3 5X category for several years, isn't returning this year. I have no use for gas stations, living in NYC without a car, or for Lyft, since we mostly take public transit and more occasionally taxis or Juno (the successor to Gett). So that leaves Walgreens, and buying Amazon and Whole Foods gift cards. We already earn 5X on Amazon and Whole Foods gift cards bought with our Ink Cash at Staples, however, so this just replicates something we get all the time, unfortunately.
While we earn 3X at all dining with our Chase Sapphire Reserve, it was great to earn an extra 2X on much of our U.S. restaurant dining, with the quarterly Chase Freedom 5X on restaurants.

When Can I Activate the Q3 2018 5X Categories?
You can activate the Chase Freedom Q3 2018 5X categories of gas stations, Lyft and Walgreens starting June 15, 2018, for spend that occurs July 1 – September 30, 2018. Be sure to activate your 5X, since spend that occurs in the 5X categories before you activate the 5X will not earn the bonus points.
What is the Maximum Spend Amount That Earns 5X?
A maximum of $1500 spend per quarter earns 5X in the selected 5X categories. All spend over that amount, per card, earns 1 point per dollar.
Can You Have Multiple Chase Freedom Cards to Earn More 5X?
Yes; my husband and I each have 2 Chase Freedom cards, so that we're each able to earn 5X on $3000 spend per quarter on the 5X categories. For quarters when we max out the bonus, that means we earn 30,000 Ultimate Rewards points between the two of us for that quarter ($1500 x 4 x 5).
How Do You Transfer Out Points Earned on the Chase Freedom to Airline Frequent Flyer Programs?
In order to transfer points earned from the Chase Freedom to frequent flyer programs, you must also have a Chase card connected to Ultimate Rewards, such as the Chase Sapphire Reserve, Chase Sapphire Preferred, Ink Business Preferred.
What are the Best Uses of Chase Ultimate Rewards Points?
I used to recommend transferring to Singapore KrisFlyer for Singapore Suites or Singapore First Class, but more recently, with considerably more limited award availability of those awards, I now prefer to do more transfers to Korean Air SkyPass for the Korean Air New Kosmo Suite 2.0 and Skypass partner awards. We've also transferred points to British Airways Avios for intra-Asia JAL Business Class and Cathay Pacific First Class and Cathay Pacific Business Class on the transcon JFK-Vancouver route.
