Best Europe Short Haul Business Class Airline Seats

Best Europe Short Haul Business Class Airline Seats

.

Business Class Airline Seats Within Europe are Typically the Same as Economy, with the middle seat blocked on airlines with 3-3 seat configurations. For that reason, at least pre-covid, it's been hard for many travelers to justify paying more for them, either with cash or miles. To be sure, most European flights are also pretty short, with even the longest ~2.5 hours. In pandemic times, however, who wouldn't want more personal space and a flat bed business class seat instead of a cramped recliner seat?

At least for a couple routes, that's now possible: Singapore Airlines has added a new Milan MXP to Barcelona BCN fifth freedom route (the flights connect to Singapore's flights between SIN and MXP), in addition to its other intra-European route between Copenhagen CPH and Rome FCO (which connect to Singapore's flights between SIN and CPH). Both routes are operated by A350-900 aircraft, which feature 42 Singapore Business Class flat bed seats that are 28 inches wide: 10 inches wider than the 18 inch seats typically used for intra-European flights.

Here are the flight times and frequencies:

Singapore Airlines Milan MXP – Barcelona BCN

This route starts January 17, 2022 and operates 3X weekly on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Currently the flights are only loaded through March 25, 2022.

  • Departs MXP 7:15am, Arrives BCN 8:50am (SQ378)
  • Departs BCN 10:10am, Arrives MXP 11:40am (SQ379)

.

Singapore Airlines Copenhagen CPH – Rome FCO

Singapore's flights between CPH and FCO operate 4X weekly, on Sundays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays for CPH-FCO, and Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays for FCO-CPH. Currently the flights are scheduled through late October 2022.

  • Departs CPH 8:15am, Arrives FCO 10:40am (SQ352)
  • Departs FCO 8:20am, Arrives CPH 10:50am (SQ351)

Award or Paid Ticket?

Although Singapore Business Class award flights are loaded for the flights between Copenhagen and Rome, these cost 30,500 KrisFlyer miles each way at the saver award level. The paid flight would be ~$500 one way or ~$950 round trip, so you'd only get ~1.5 cents per KrisFlyer mile in value booking award flights. Generally we recommend only redeeming miles or points if you're getting a return of at least 2 cents per mile or point, if not more. That said, if you have an abundance of miles and points or KrisFlyer miles that will soon expire, this could be a nice little splurge on a flight to or from Italy.
