AMEX Business Platinum Cardholders Get a $200 Statement Credit after paying their annual fee on their card anniversary which AMEX is calling an “appreciation credit.” That may help mollify cardholders otherwise reluctant to renew a $595 per year card, especially given that all AMEX Centurion Lounges have been closed since March 21, 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic. For many card holders, Centurion Lounge access has been a key reason to keep the card. Another aspect, the $200 airline fee credit, will be hard to use given that many aren't anxious to fly again in 2020 even when Stay at Home orders are lifted.
Note that the $200 statement credit won't be provided if the AMEX Business Platinum is product changed within 45 days of the first day of your renewal month.
Other throwaway perks for the card are:
- After enrollment, $100 in additional Dell statement credits May 1-June 30, 2020 and another $100 in Dell statement credits July 1-December 31, 2020
- Up to $20 in statement credits per month for wireless phone services from U.S. service providers from May 1-December 31, 2020, no enrollment required

We consider the above to be throwaway benefits, with high breakage, since many cardholders won't spend anything on Dell or on shipping, and won't take the time to switch their current card on file for their recurring phone payments to the AMEX Business Platinum, if it's not already being used.
$200 is probably the minimum AMEX needs to get enough AMEX Business Platinum cardholders to keep the card, given the circumstances. We've found better value with the Chase Sapphire Reserve, and while the $100 annual fee increase for that card stings, at least there's a Chase Sapphire Reserve $100 Fee Credit for cardholders whose card renews April 1-July 1, 2020.
