Activate Chase Freedom 5X for Q3 2019 Categories Gas Stations and Streaming Services today, for use July-September 2019. This is the first time the Chase Freedom has had select streaming services as a category, so it bears noting what it includes:
- Netflix
- Hulu
- Spotify
- Pandora
- SiriusXM
- Apple Music
- Sling
- Vudu
- FuboTV
Any other streaming services are NOT included.
The Gas Stations category, as usual, is for stand alone gas stations such as 7 Eleven, BP, Chevron, ExxonMobil, Shell, and the like. It does NOT include warehouse stores, discount stores, truck stops, car repair shops, convenience stores where gas isn't sold, and other stores that are not stand alone gas stations.
The Verdict
I suppose if gas is a significant expense item, or you're near a gas station that has a good gift card selection and allows you to pay with a credit card this could be a good category. But streaming services is a poor category, since for most, it barely makes a dent in the $1500 maximum for the quarter.
And as someone based in NYC without a car, this quarter's categories are a fail, for me. Instead, I'll be focusing on finishing our $6000 spend on grocery stores (from our 4 Chase Freedom cards) by the end of June, for the Q2 2019 5X bonus.
