Review: Lufthansa First Class Terminal Frankfurt

Lufthansa First Class Terminal Review, Frankfurt Airport

This Lufthansa First Class Terminal Frankfurt Review is a more complete review of our experience, summarized in Lufthansa First Class Terminal, Frankfurt: 6 Things I Love. As I mentioned, the Lufthansa First Class Terminal is unusual among first class lounges in that it's not part of or connected to the airport terminals; it's a separate terminal that you're either driven to / dropped off at if you're a departing passenger, or you can walk to it if you arrived in Lufthansa First Class and are departing on another flight the same day.

Lufthansa First Class Terminal Frankfurt Location, Access and Hours

I often get questions about who has access to the Lufthansa First Class Terminal in Frankfurt, so here's who has access:

  • Passengers departing in Lufthansa First Class, either from Frankfurt or connecting to a Lufthansa First Class flight later the same day (e.g. if you are departing Frankfurt in business class to Munich and flying Lufthansa First Class from Munich, you have access)
  • Passengers arriving on Lufthansa First Class IF they are connecting to another Lufthansa group flight in any class. For example, we arrive in Frankfurt on Lufthansa First Class but connected to Lufthansa Business Class to Paris. You could also be connecting to a SWISS or Austrian flight instead of Lufthansa.
  • Passengers who hold HON status in the Lufthansa Miles & More frequent flyer program
  • The above eligible passengers may bring in one guest if s/he is on your same flight. Alternatively you can bring in your spouse or partner and children under 18 if they have a same day boarding pass.

Note that the Lufthansa First Class Terminal is NOT available to you if you are a Star Alliance elite or flying first class on another Star Alliance carrier, but not flying Lufthansa First Class. So if you fly Singapore Suites, you have access to the Lufthansa Senator Lounge or the Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounge but not the Lufthansa First Class Terminal.

Similarly, you do not have access to the Lufthansa First Class Terminal if you are arriving in Lufthansa First Class and your final destination is Frankfurt, or if you are connecting to a non-Lufthansa group flight.

The Lufthansa First Class Terminal hours are 5:30am – 10pm.

Getting to the Lufthansa First Class Terminal

I'd thought that there might be signs to the First Class Terminal, but at least from where we arrived, there weren't. I even asked a Lufthansa employee and she looked at me as if I had two heads and insisted there was just Terminal 1, which we were in, and there wasn't a separate First Class Terminal–go figure.

In any case, if you arrived in Terminal 1 as we did, go through passport control, and exit through baggage claim. Go left and walk past the bus shuttles and taxis, including a small coffee shop on your right, from where you'll be able to see the Lufthansa First Class Terminal. The terminal is really made for driving up to, not for passengers walking there from Terminal 1, so be careful crossing the street as there isn't an actual crosswalk. You'll enter and see a sign and orchid, and can take the elevator / lift up to the reception area.

Lufthansa First Class Terminal Frankfurt Airport Amenities

The Lufthansa First Class Terminal encompasses nearly 20,000 square feet of space, and once you're welcomed, you'll be assigned your own personal assistant who will escort you through security (yes, you clear security on arriving at the First Class Terminal, so you don't have to go through security again when departing it) and shown the facilities.

Our assistant was incredibly friendly and helpful, immediately reserving one of the two nap rooms for us when I mentioned my son would need to rest a bit. There are two nap rooms, each with a bed that seemed slightly larger than twin size. My son and I both would have fit in it, but it would be too small for two adults unless you're both really tiny. I loved that once the lights were off, it was completely dark–much better than on the plane, where there always seems to be some light interference such that you need a sleep mask to really block out the light.

There was bottled water, both sparkling and still:

Our assistant also kindly reserved the shower room with bathtub for us, when she heard that my son prefers baths to showers. I loved how spacious it was, with everything you needed and immaculately clean.

Two bathrobes and pairs of slippers were available on the wooden bench:

My son loved that there were two Lufthansa First Class Terminal rubber ducks waiting for him:

And meanwhile I took a shower in a rain shower that will accommodate even the tallest passengers:

Bath products are made in Italy, by Etro:

There's also a Cigar Lounge with fine whiskies available, although I didn't venture in there.

If the nap rooms are both taken, you can enjoy one of these relaxation chairs:

I had to get some work done, so I made use of one of the 5 work spaces, with a sliding glass door that closes:

Parents with young children are also catered for–there's a kids' play room, and even a crib where you could put your baby down for a nap:

Finally, don't forget one of the best services: being driven right to your flight in a Mercedes (ok, for us it was a van, since there were two other passengers on our same flight so only a van accommodated all four of us, but still).

Lufthansa First Class Terminal Frankfurt Food and Drinks

Interestingly, most food items in the Lufthansa First Class Terminal are available on the buffet, although a few a la carte items are also available. Here's the menu; the ones that are a la carte are the “Local Specials” such as the Wiener Schnitzel.

There were also a few more a la carte specials in honor of the UEFA Euro 2016 football / soccer matches being held in France this year:

The buffet was beautifully presented. There were a number of salads, and my son and I particularly enjoyed the shrimp:

There were also dips such as hummus, and tabouleh:

Hot dishes included salmon, lamb chops, and Thai beef with red peppers and basil, as well as roasted potatoes and green beans with carrots:

Different types of smoked salmon were also on offer; the wines in the background were just a few of the many wines and vintages available.

All kinds of alcohol are available at the bar, although alcohol was the last thing I wanted during this stopover, since I wanted to rehydrate, refresh with a shower, and get some work done.

Since I'd had a good breakfast on the plane, I opted to try small bites of several things, all of which were excellent.

As usual, my son and I also wanted some yogurt. It was lunch time during our visit, so there was no yogurt on the buffet, but our server was kind enough to get some for us, both plain and fruit yogurt.

There were a number of different desserts, and the almond cherry tart looked especially good.

There were even chocolate covered strawberries:

That said, we couldn't resist ordering Crepes Suzette. Since I was sharing with my son, I asked for the Grand Marnier to be left out of it. Even the orange sorbet it came with was superb.

The Verdict

If the Lufthansa First Class Terminal had a spa similar to the Six Senses Spa at the Etihad First Class Lounge in Abu Dhabi with a complimentary massage (or a complimentary 1 hour oil massage as at the Thai First Class Royal Orchid Lounge in Bangkok) this would likely be my favorite first class lounge. I loved that it wasn't too crowded and had both a nap room and a spacious bathroom with bathtub, as well as some dishes available a la carte.
