Vanilla Reloads at 7-11 and 5X for Gas with Chase Freedom Q3 Bonus?

Vanilla Reload cards are at 7-11, which I noticed back in June but didn't pay much attention to, since at least the ones I've tried to buy them at have told me that they accept cash only.

But, according to Fly Theory, his local 7-11 in Orange County, California allowed him to pay with a credit card AND he was able to receive 2X points using his Chase Ink Bold card, due to it being coded as a gas station.

And Kathy writes that she has had success in paying with credit card at 7-11 stores in Manhattan–unlike my experience, where every clerk has always said “cash only” and mentioned the boss enforces this rule.

But if you can find a 7-11 near you that you can buy Vanilla Reload cards with a credit card, you can earn 5X Ultimate Rewards points by paying with your Chase Freedom, if you activate the Chase Freedom Q3 5X bonus on gas stations. This is a great way to max out the 5X bonus, since the other categories are Kohl's and amusement parks, which really aren't the easiest categories to max out. As for me, since I don't have time to check out every 7-11 store in Manhattan, I'll stick with CVS stores for now, since I know I can reliably pay for Vanilla Reloads with a credit card.
