Alaska Airlines Visa 25,000 Miles and $100 Statement Credit

The Alaska Airlines Visa has a low 25,000 mile signup bonus, but it's churnable. The issue is that the $75 annual fee is NOT waived.

But now there's a version available that gives you a $100 statement credit (more than covering the annual fee) after $1000 spend in the first 90 days:

$100 Statement Credit and 25K Bonus Miles for Alaska Airlines Visa

In case the screen shot is hard to read, here are the details:

  • Earn 25,000 Bonus Alaska Airlines miles upon approval
  • Get a $100 statement credit after $1000 in purchases within 90 days of your new credit card account open date. Please allow 8-12 weeks from qualifying for the statement credit to post to your new Alaska Airlines credit card
  • Coach Companion Fare every year from $118 ($99, plus taxes and fees from $19)
  • Earn 3 miles for every qualifying dollar in purchases of Alaska Airlines tickets, Vacation packages and Cargo purchases
  • $75 Annual Fee for Visa Signature account, not waived

I applied for the Alaska Airlines Visa last year, before Alaska eliminated the first class companion ticket benefit (see Alaska Airlines Visa Approved: First Class Companion Ticket to Hawaii!) That was the primary benefit that got me to apply for the card, since I simply don't fly enough domestically on paid tickets to earn many Alaska Airlines miles, even if I credited my few American Airlines miles to Alaska.

Then again, some folks on FlyerTalk apply for the Alaska Airlines Visa every several months, so if you're a big churner, you could build 75,000-100,000 Alaska miles a year per person that way just from the signup bonuses.

And if you're lucky enough to have plenty of Alaska miles, you could use 140,000 Alaska miles to fly Cathay Pacific First Class from SFO or LAX to South Africa (JNB) via Hong Kong, with one stopover allowed, as mentioned in Maximize Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan Awards.

Another aspirational redemption is on Emirates, thanks to Alaska's Emirates Award Chart, especially once Alaska makes one way Emirates awards, and mixed partner awards that include Emirates. But note that if you're flying roundtrip anyway, Japan Airlines' award chart is better value (though it doesn't allow one way awards and hasn't announced any plans to).

Decisions, decisions…I wasn't planning to do a churn right now but perhaps I should.

Do you plan to apply for the Alaska Visa with 25,000 bonus miles and $100 statement credit?
